They're Folding to Phil

Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth
Avi Mukherjee raised to 2,200 from early position, and it folded around to Phil Hellmuth in the small blind who reraised to 8,200. The big blind folded, and Mukherjee made the call.

The flop came {9-Spades}{J-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}, and both players checked. The turn brought the {2-Diamonds}. Hellmuth reached for his chips, then tapped the felt. Mukherjee checked as well.

The river was the {Q-Spades}. Hellmuth wasted little time firing out a bet of 7,000, and Mukherjee folded.

On the next hand, Hellmuth opened with a button raise and claimed the blinds and antes. Hellmuth is up to 145,000 now.

Daneshgar's Hand No Good

A player in middle position raised to 2,000 and the cutoff seat made the call. David Daneshgar also called out of the big blind and the three players took the flop of {7-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {2-Clubs}.

Daneshgar checked, the preflop raiser checked, and then the cutoff fired out 4,000. Daneshgar called and the other player folded.

The turn brought checks from both remaining players after the dealer placed the {4-Hearts} on the felt.

The river provided the {5-Diamonds}. Daneshgar fired out 3,800 and his opponent called. Daneshgar tabled {K-Clubs} {7-Clubs}, but lost to his opponent's pocket eights. He's down a little bit to 70,000.

Koral Makes Courageous Call

Tom Koral in action

With a raise to 2,200 in front of him, Tom Koral pushed the action to 5,800 total. His opponent made the call before both players checked the {J-Spades}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop.

When the turn landed the {10-Clubs} Koral fired 5,800 at the pot and his opponent check-called.

The river landed the {6-Diamonds} and this time Koral's opponent took the lead; moving all in for his last 16,400 in chips.

"I think you missed" commented Koral, as he sat mulling over the decision for close to three minutes.

Finally Koral made the call tabling {6-Hearts}{5-Clubs} for a rivered pair. His opponent tapped the table and threw his hand into the muck to award the pot to Koral as he climped to over 78,000 in chips.

Staying Akenhead of the Game

Not losing his Akenhead
Not losing his Akenhead
Young, intense Brit James Akenhead is up to 182,000.

Akenhead and the gentleman on the big blind saw a {7-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} flop, and Akenhead called a 9,900 bet from his opponent.

Come the {A-Clubs} turn, the big blind checked, and then raised all in to a 22,500 bet from Akenhead. A call, a failure for the big blind to hit his flush, indeed a full house for Akenhead, and we lose the big blind.

Big Blind: {A-Hearts} {4-Hearts} for two pair and a flush draw
Akenhead: {A-Spades} {5-Diamonds} for a better two pair

River: {5-Clubs} to give Akenhead the full house.

Kalmar Continues to Climb

Jon Kalmar
Jon Kalmar
Jon Kalmar, fifth-place finisher in the WSOP Main Event in 2007, lost a few chips during the first two levels today, but has recently climbed back to about where he began the day.

In a recent hand, Kalmar opened with a raise to 2,500 from the cutoff, and only the big blind called. The flop came {J-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. The BB checked, Kalmar quickly tossed out a single orange (5,000) chip, and his opponent let it go.

Kalmar is back to about 130,000 now.

Bad TV Time For Tony Hachem

Always one for the cameras
Always one for the cameras
With Tony Hachem sitting in the big blind, his opponent in the small blind opened with a raise to 2,500 after the action was passed round.

Hachem questioned his opponent a few times before making 8,300 to go to put the decision back on the small blind.

There was no running away here, as the small blind reraised to 15,700 total as the action was put back to Hachem once again.

The ESPN cameras approached and fixed their lens and microphone squarely on one of the most popular poker brothers in the industry.

Eventually Hachem would release his hand but, after the small blind tabled his {6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, wish he had kept it so as not to slip to 131,000 in chips.

Farmar Draws Charge

On the flop of {A-Spades} {9-Hearts} {3-Diamonds}, Jordan Farmar fired a bet of 7,000 after his opponent checked to him. The player made the call.

The turn brought the {6-Spades} and Farmar's opponent bet 14,000. Farmar called.

The river was the {J-Diamonds} and Farmar called a 25,000-chip bet from his opponent. The player held {8-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} for nothing a busted draw. Farmar tabled {A-Hearts} {10-Spades} and moved up to 170,000.

Hachem Wins A Flip

2005 WSOP Main Event Champion Joe Hachem is up to 77,000. He raised to 2,000 UTG and found another player pushing all in behind him for 9,000.

Hachem made the call with {9-Hearts} {9-Clubs} and found the {7-Spades} {10-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} board much more favourable for himself than for his opponent who had {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}.

Traniello Can't Beat Trips

Gent on the right had trips, Traniello didn't
Gent on the right had trips, Traniello didn't
Marco Traniello bet out on the turn of a {10-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} {8-Spades} board and called a raise from his opponent -- but then mucked after both checked the {2-Spades} river and the opponent turned over {8-Clubs} {5-Clubs} for trips. He's down to 67,000.
