Matt Parvis On the Climb

On a board of {6-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {3-Spades} {J-Clubs}, Matt Parvis bet 2,200 from middle position and was called by his lone opponent on the button.

The river came the {10-Diamonds} and Parvis fired 3,300. His opponent thought for quite some time before finally making a reluctant fold.

Parvis is now working with a stack of about 31,500.

Boeree Drops Chips

Liv Boeree - event #41
Liv Boeree - event #41
Liv Boeree saw a flop with four others in the hand. When the flop came down {A-Spades} {10-Spades} {2-Spades}, Boeree bet out 600. One player called.

The turn was the {10-Hearts} and Boeree bet 1,600. The player called again.

The river was the {7-Hearts} and once again Boeree bet. This time, she made it 2,200. Her opponent called. and showed {2-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} for a full house. Boeree mucked and dropped down to 13,600.

#$%&! @&$%! *&%@!!!

The button and the small blind limped in, Dag Palovic raised to 2,600 from the big blind and only the button called. The flop was {7-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {5-Hearts}. Palovic checked, the button bet 2,200 and Palovic called. The turn was the {9-Diamonds}. Palovic checked again, the button fired out another 4,000 and Palovic called. The river was the {Q-Hearts} and both players checked.

The button showed {8-Spades} {10-Hearts} for the flush and Palovic mucked, cursing in a foreign tongue as he counted out the 5,450 that remained in his stack.

Fernandez Trips Over Minh Ly

Minh Ly
Minh Ly
We found Minh Ly once again involved in a pot for his tournament life, and this time, he came up on the proverbial short end of the stick.

He and Fernando Fernandez were mixed up in a pot with the flop showing {8-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {9-Clubs}. Ly checked the action over to his opponent, and Fernandez put out a bet of 400. Ly check-raised all in for about 3,000, and Fernandez quickly called.

Ly: {7-Clubs} {10-Clubs}
Fernandez: {9-Diamonds} {5-Spades}

Fernandez was well ahead with his triple nines and had Minh Ly's tournament life in his hands. The turn and river came {3-Diamonds} and {3-Clubs} respectively, giving Ly his flush on the river, but making Fernandez the winning full house. With that win, he puts an end to Ly's day early in level two.

In Memoriam

Jared Brintz is playing today after qualifying for the Main Event online at Poker Stars. Next to him sits an interesting card capper-- a small black ceramic urn. Brintz's grandmother passed away just before he started playing in major poker events. In her memory, he carries a piece of her remains with him from tournament to tournament for good luck. Brintz has carried the urn to the 2004 and 2007 WSOP, the L.A. Poker Classic, and to the 2006 Ultimate Poker Classic in Aruba, where he finished fifth.

So far, Brintz is doing quite well and has already doubled his starting stack to 40,750.

Big Stack Equals More Options

On a flop of {5-Spades}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, Juan Macieras called a short-stacked player's all-in bet and turned over {7-Spades}{6-Spades} for top pair, an overcard to the board, and a gutshot straight-flush draw. His opponent tabled {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}.

The turn was the {2-Clubs}, but the {10-Spades} on the river gave Macieras the hand and yet another notch on his belt. He's up to 60,000.

Dmitiri Nobles, Spooling Up

After laying down a hand against a player who raised him, Dmitri Nobles said, "I'll let you have it--this time." On the very next hand the same player raised to 850 from late position and Nobles, defending his big blind, grabbed a stack of chips and threw them in the pot. The dealer counted it down and the raise was 3,700. The other player moved all in for 12,000 and Nobles snap-called, leaping to his feet and showing {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} to his opponent's {5-Spades} {5-Clubs}.

The board ran out {9-Hearts} {10-Spades} {10-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {J-Clubs} and that pot boosted Nobles' stack to 48,000.

Mimi's back in Traning

Mimi Tran
Mimi Tran
A short-stacked Mimi Tran got the last of her chips in on a {7-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {K-Clubs} flop holding {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds}. Luckily for her she found a caller holding {K-Hearts} {8-Hearts}.

She was more lucky when the turn {A-Clubs} and river {4-Clubs} passed without showing a heart. She's back up to 9,000 now.
