Gray Fires Three Barrels at Lechich

Craig Gray raised to 1,050 from middle position and Tino Lechich called. The flop was {8-Hearts} {4-Spades} {2-Diamonds}. Gray led out for 1,600 and Lechich called. The turn was the {9-Spades}. Gray fired another 3,500 and Lechich called again. The river brought the {3-Diamonds}. Gray bet 13,000 and this time, Lechich folded. Gray raked in the substantial pot and increased his stack to 37,000.

Gavin Grounded

Gavin Smith
Gavin Smith
A very short-stacked Gavin Smith got it all in with {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} versus Doug Cardoza's {7-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. The flop came {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, giving Cardoza a pair, but also giving Smith a flush draw. The turn {J-Spades} and river {2-Diamonds} didn't help Smith, however, and he hit the rail.

1,297...We Think

We know many of you are curious as to the final number of players who started their Main Event today-- as are we. Per Tournament Director Jack Effel, the "unofficial official" number of players today is 1,297. The "official official" number will officially be released at the dinner break. Complications like late buy-ins, no-shows, people changing their Day 1 play date, etc. all are contributing to the delay in the release of this number.

Meldrum Fires With Bullets

Andrew Meldrum
Andrew Meldrum
Australian Andrew Meldrum has just eliminated a player from today's event. In a raised pot, the player in the big blind open-pushed on the flop of {4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} but Meldrum quickly called with {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} for an overpair and nut flush draw, to have his opponent in bad shape with {J-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}.

The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and river {10-Hearts} and Meldrum is now up to 23,600.
