Mateusz Warowiec Wins MPN Poker Tour Prague 2019 ($39,000)

Professional poker player Mateusz Warowiec has won the €550 MPN Poker Tour Prague Main Event and 900,000 Kč (€36,000/$39,158) after outlasting Sunday’s returning twenty-three players to hoist his first MPNPT trophy.

With nine years of pro play under his belt, the Day 1a chip leader never dropped in chips once he’d secured a big stack, and calmly outmaneuvered his eight final table opponents until he added the coveted prize to his prior $110,000 in live winnings.

The 402-entry Main Event paid the top 47 finishers a share of its 4,808,925 Kč (€192,357) total prize pool, with a min-cash worth 28,750 Kč (€1,150). Having made the final day well into the money positions, everyone returned guaranteed a payout of at least €1,900.

While the live stream (on Twitch and Facebook) gave out the password for the special online €2,000 Livestream Freebuy (which awarded the winner an MPNPT London package worth €1,500) the feature table saw players’ fortunes rise and fall until Warowiec held every chip in the tournament. Once the final table was set, a seriousness lacking from the laughter-filled side events took over the final nine.

A big reversal of stack occurred early on as Grosvenor Poker qualifier Alex Clark doubled up Jari-Pekka Rattya, who promptly went on to bust Jason Poelman in ninth (100,000 Kč/€4,000). The experienced Martin Mulsow busted in eight in a classic ace-king versus pocket queens flip.

All was briefly calm before shock back-to-back eliminations suddenly brought the final table to its short-handed stage. British professional player Daniel Stacey suffered a bad beat to finish in seventh place, followed to the rail the very next hand by Vilem Vrana, whose suited ace-king failed to hit against the tens of Clark.

For a while, it looked as if Alex Clark had recovered from his shaky start, but he was to be eliminated in fifth by Lazar; ace-ten against ace-jack.

Four-handed play continued for several levels until finally, Jari-Pekka Rattya succumbed, moving in as a short-stack with king-eight offsuit, called by two out of three of his opponents. In the end, it was Warowiec who took his scalp, which meant that fellow Paf qualifier Marko Keskel won Paf’s “qualifiers’ last-longer” and a free MPNPT London package, as well as the €25,300 he picked up for his second place.

The elimination of Andrei Lazar in third set the heads up with Warowiec in a commanding chip position, which he increased until Marko Keskel took the plunge all-in preflop one time too many and found Warowiec trapping with pocket jacks which held up to secure the victory.
