Mateusz Warowiec Bags MPNPT Prague Main Event Day 1A Chip Lead
The MPN Poker Tour Prague’s €550 Main Event kicked off the first of its three flights at the grand and labyrinthine surroundings of the historic Rebuy Stars Savarin Casino in the heart of the Czech capital. A total of 111 players took their first shot at a share of the €200,000 guaranteed prize pool and perhaps, ultimately, the 2019 title. The option to re-enter remains all the way up until the conclusion of the first blind level of Day 2, should luck not be with them on the first attempt.
After 14 levels, it was Mateusz Warowiec (lead photo) who led the first batch of 33 survivors, with 263,000 chips. He is trailed most closely by Maria Stroemstad (187,800) and Patryk Bablok (186,000). Also making it through the first flight was MPNPT stalwart Mateusz Moolhuizen, who spent his birthday building a stack of 127,800 which he takes through to Saturday’s Day 2. With live tournament winnings just shy of $1 million already, he’ll be one to watch.

While the first flight played late into the night, the MPNPT Players’ Party took place in one of the oldest pubs in Prague, dating back to 1375, deep beneath the magnificent Prague Castle. A full medieval show greeted players, including dinner with music, dancing, jugglers, fire breathers and swordsmen, all with a literally underground ambiance. It’s guaranteed to go down in MPNPT history as one of the most unique parties ever thrown on the tour.
In side event news: Wednesday night’s €40/900 Kč Prague Welcome Event was billed as something of a warm-up, but in fact swelled to a 271-entry hard-fought battle, finally crowning Jiří Novak the winner after 9:30 am. For his perseverance, he earned the 46,900 Kč (€1,825/$2,038) top prize and the right to rest through Day 1A of the Main Event, now having the option to enter Friday’s Day 1B at 2 p.m. or the Turbo Day 1c on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
Taking center stage among the upcoming side events at MPNPT Prague will be the €220/5,500 Kč Hendon Mob Championship. The two-day tournament starts at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, with its final running alongside that of the Main Event on Sunday, May 5 at 3 p.m. The full schedule can be found here.
Live reporting continues at the MPN Poker Tour Blog throughout the Main Event (May 2-5) and cards-up live streaming starts at 8:05 p.m. on Friday at the ThrillOfPoker Twitch channel and the MPN Poker Tour Facebook page.
