Things have mellowed a little since the departure of Duy Vu.
Lior Segre and Chao Duan battled in the blinds in a hand with Segre opening the action from the small blind with a bet of 375,000 and Duan made the call to bring in a flop of .
Segre led out for 225,000 and Duan made the call to keep play heads-up to to the river. Segre bombed it for 815,000 and Duan mucked.
Edwin Chiu won the following hand in a limped blind on blind pot against Chao Duan, with Steven Zhou winning the hand afterwards in another limped blind on blind hand against Chiu.
Duan took the next one with a cutoff open for 320,000, with Edwin Chiu making it 350,000 to go in the cutoff the hand afterwards. Lior Segre was the only caller in the big blind, check-folding to Chiu's 350,000 continuation bet on a flop of .
Then a period of raise folding followed with Chiu the main beneficiary with stacks as follows:
Edwin Chiu raised to 350,000 from the cutoff. John Zwaine called from the small blind. Duy Vu then re-raised to 1,500,000 from the big blind. Chiu thought for a minute and called. Zwaine got out of the way.
The flop came and Vu moved all in for 4,050,000. Chiu snap-called with more behind.
Chiu:
Vu:
Vu had made a move with queen-high and run into Chiu's monster pocket pair.
The on the turn gave Vu outs to a gut-shot straight.
The on the river wouldn't help and Vu was sent to the rail in 6th place.
Chiu moves to over 15 million, giving him almost half the chips in play, with five remaining.
Lior Segre has been surfing the short-stack for the last couple of levels but earned a double at the expenses of Chao Duan in a battle of the blinds.
Segre had moved all-in from under-the-gun two hands prior to take the blinds and antes, folding the big blind to Duy Vu's small blind shove the following hand.
The hand after saw the action fold around to Segre in the small blind and he moved all-in for 1.76-million and after asking for a count Chao Duan made the call to put Segre at risk.
Lior Segre:
Chao Duan:
Statistically, Duan was a slight favourite in the hand, with a chop likely one time in four. However, Segre bucked the odds to win the hand and earn the double when the board ran out with the window card bringing cheers from Segre's watching rail.
Edwin Chiu raised to 300,000 from the small blind and was called by Steven Zhou in the big blind.
The flop came and Chiu continued for 300,000. Zhou called.
Both players checked the on the turn before the completed the board.
Chiu checked. Zhou then announced 'fifty' which was below the minimum bet. The dealer concluded that Zhou would have to bet the minimum which was 120,000 which he did. Chiu thought for a moment then folded.
Chao Duan opened to 260,000 from under-the-gun plus one and Duy Vu chose to defend his big blind and the duo headed off to battle for another sizable pot.
The flop saw no betting, with Vu taking the betting lead on the turn, firing out for 400,000 with Duan making the call to bring in the river.
Vu reached for the big chips, cutting out a bet of 1-million and Duan did not take long to call, but could only muck when Vu revealed for top pair.
Chao Duan has just shown he's come to play, going with his read to make a big call on the river in a sizable pot against Duy Vu.
Duan had taken down the previous hand with a 250,000 button raise, and the following hand saw Duy Vu pop it up to 260,000 from under-the-gun, with Duan responding with a three-bet to 650,000 from the cutoff.
Vu made the call to take play heads-up to a flop of with both players checking to bring in the turn. This is where things started to get interesting, with Vu leading large with a bet of 1-million.
Duan likes to think over his decisions and a lengthy visit to the think tank followed, but the Chinese player did eventually chose to call to keep the duo in action to the river.
Vu reached for chips once more, cutting out a bet of 1.4-million which sent Duan deep into thought. After a couple of minutes in the tank, an impatient Steven Zhou called for the clock, giving Duan 40-seconds and with just 2 seconds remaining on the timer, Duan slammed down the call.
It was good, Vu rolled over and Duan triumphantly tabled for the best hand and chunky pot. What a call.
