Kanit Struggles to Get Paid

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

It was a rough start to the day for Mustapha Kanit, dropping to below 100,000 chips at one point, and another player on the table tried to make it a lot tougher. With a little over 20,000 in the middle, three players saw a flop of {6-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}. The action checked to Kanit who bet 9,000 from middle position. Hyung Kim called directly to his left and the other player folded.

The turn was the {q-Diamonds} and both players checked to the {3-Hearts} on the river. Kanit announced a bet of 24,000 and the dealer counted it out to verify. Kim thought for a couple of minutes and then pushed 14,000 into the middle. Kanit tabled {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} for the winning hand but when the dealer asked Kim for an extra 10,000 chips to complete the call, there was some confusion.

Kim thought he heard Kanit say 14,000 when he bet but it was clear to the rest of the table that the bet was 24,000. Kim sat with his cards in front of him and would not put in the extra 10,000 chips. The floor was called to the table and after some discussion, Kim was ordered to put in the extra chips or be penalized. Kim finally paid the full amount and showed his {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} before the next hand continued.

DiFelice Busts Chin

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Alex DiFelice raised to 5,000 first to act and a short-stacked Derek Chin moved all in for around 35,000 in the cutoff. After some speech play out of the small blind, a short-stacked William Kassouf folded and DiFelice snap-called.

Chin turned over the {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and it was a classic race, as DiFelice held the {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}. The {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop took some of Chin's out away, and the {K-Diamonds} turn and {5-Diamonds} river were both blanks.

Dutch Update

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Mathijs Jonkers, who finished in 3rd place in the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event last year has just been eliminated. A player on his table opened to 4,500, Jonkers found {3-}{3-} in the cutoff and shoved. The player in the big blind held {j-}{j-} and called. No help on the board for Jonkers and his Main Event dream here in Las Vegas is over for this year.

Oscar Kemps lost with {j-}{j-} against a player who held {a-}{j-} and defended his big blind. The flop came {k-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{8-} on which they both checked to the {7-} on the turn. Kemp's opponent check-called Kemp's bet of 6,000. They both checked again when the {a-} came on the river for his opponent to take down the pot.

Gregor Prizmic Martini (button) called the 4,500 bet of his opponent in mid-position. The flop brought them the {10-}{10-}{5-}, Martini's opponent bet 4,000 and got called. The turn was the {8-} on which they both checked. The river completed the board with the {4-}, now Martini's opponent check-folded to Martini's overbet of 22,000.

Cunningham Bets the River

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Allen Cunningham
Allen Cunningham

Four players saw a flop of {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{3-Spades} with about 25,000 in the middle and action checked around.

They checked the {A-Spades} turn, as well, and the {9-Clubs} fell on the river. Both blinds checked, Allen Cunningham bet 8,000 from middle position, the hijack folded, and both blinds did the same, so Cunningham took the pot.

Song Leaves Rheem Talking to Himself

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Stephen Song
Stephen Song

It was shaping up to be one of the biggest pots of the tournament thus far and once again, Chino Rheem was right in the middle of it. The pot had well over 200,000 chips in the middle on a board reading {j-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{6-Clubs}.

Stephen Song had pushed in a bet of 175,000 from the big blind and the action was on Rheem on the button. "King-jack can't be any good here, can it?" Rheem appeared to be asking Song but got no response.

About another two minutes passed with Rheem replaying the hand out loud and trying to decipher what Song's holding could be. "Sorry guys, I just have one pair. One pair, that's all," he continued. After another minute, Rheem finally tossed his cards to the muck and Song was able to drag in the pot with a big smile.

Kelly Minkin
Kelly Minkin

The player in the cutoff raised to 4,500 and Kelly Minkin called from the button.

The flop came {7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and the cutoff checked. Minkin bet 6,000 and the cutoff called.

The {10-Diamonds} hit the turn and the cutoff checked. Minkin bet again, 16,000 this time, and after a bit of time in the tank, her opponent called.

The river brought the {7-Spades} and the cutoff checked. Minkin bet 45,000 and the cutoff called. Minkin tabled {Q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and her trip sevens were best.
