Steffen Sontheimer
Steffen Sontheimer

Nicklaus Thompson raised to 8,000 from the hijack and Steffen Sontheimer was next to act in the cutoff. Sontheimer three-bet to 25,000. Action folded back to Thompson who asked how much Sontheimer was playing. Thompson then put Sontheimer all in and Sontheimer snap-called.

Steffen Sontheimer: {K-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}
Nicklaus Thompson: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}

The board ran out {9-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} to eliminate Sontheimer from the tournament.

Springael Takes From Lutz

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Thomas Lutz raised to 9,000 from the hijack and was only called by Joris Springael in the big blind.

They both checked through the {k-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{q-Spades} on the flop to the {q-Diamonds} on the turn. Springael bet 11,000 and Lutz called.

The river completed the board with the {a-Hearts}, Springael looked at Lutz's stack, and then decided to bet 15,000. Lutz glanced at the board and then called. Springael tabled {4-Spades}{4-Clubs} for the full house and Lutz mucked his hand.

Paur Doubles Through Pateychuk

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Taylor Paur was all in and at risk for 186,000 with {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds} and had little to fear, as Andrey Pateychuk held a dominated {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}. The board of {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{J-Diamonds} already confirmed Paur's double on the turn, and he jumped above the average.

Among those to have chipped up in the Amazon Tan section are also Anthony Marsico, Nils Tolpingrud, Tobias Ziegler, and Vi Do.

Borsa Hits Harder than Liebeler

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Ben Yu opened to 10,000 from the hijack and Eric Liebeler reraised to 32,500 in the cutoff. Alessandro Borsa flat-called from the button and Yu laid his hand down. The flop came {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and Liebeler led out for 47,500 which Borsa called.

The turn was the {2-Spades} and both players checked to the {q-Hearts} on the river. Liebeler checked again and Borsa slid in a bet of 71,000. Liebeler snap-called and Borsa turned over {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} for a straight.

"I had queen-ten of spades," Liebeler mentioned as he pushed chips towards Borsa. "If you would have bet the turn, I would have jammed all in."

Domenech Doubles Through Albertson

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

The player under the gun opened to 9,000. Jordi Domenech, from one seat over, called. Cory Albertson, in the hijack, three-bet to 30,000. The original raiser folded. Domenech four-bet shoved for 153,000. Albertson went deep into the tank for a few minutes before throwing in chips signifying a call.

Domenech tabled {k-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} and Albertson showed {5-Hearts}{4-Hearts}, commenting, ''You're in trouble buddy...''

The board ran {2-Hearts}{5-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{a-Diamonds} and Albertson was wrong, as Domenech got his double-up.

Volpe Loses Some

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

With about 30,000 in the pot and the board reading {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}, Paul Volpe checked from the big blind to his lone opponent on the button. He bet 1,3500 and Volpe called.

The turn brought the {K-Clubs} and Volpe check-called a bet of 16,500 from the button.

The {2-Diamonds} fell on the river and Volpe checked. His opponent bet 21,500 and Volpe went into the tank.

"Bluffing me with the best hand again?" Volpe asked.

"I don't know how to bluff," his opponent replied.

After over a minute, Volpe called. The button tabled {A-Clubs}{10-Hearts} for Broadway, Volpe mucked, and the button took the pot.

Yahtzee! for Hicks

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Eric Hicks
Eric Hicks

Eric Hicks has been one of the bright personalities of this year's Main Event and once again he provided some excitement for those around him. Hicks raised to 11,000 from the hijack and the button three-bet to 27,500. The action was back on Hicks who made the call as the flop came {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

Hicks checked to his opponent who continued for 25,500. Hicks check-raised to 120,000 and his opponent went into the tank for a couple of minutes. He eventually moved all in for around 275,000 and Hicks groaned but still made the call. The button flipped over {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for two pair while Hicks held {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for top pair and a flush draw.

The turn was the {2-Hearts} and Hicks jumped for joy. "Yahtzee!" he screamed, but there was still one card to come. The river was the {6-Spades} and the nut flush for Hicks sent his opponent to the rail. "What took you so long with ace-ten?" he asked as his opponent walked away.

James Obst
James Obst

When we got to the table, the cards were already on their backs and the complete {9-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{7-Diamonds} board was out. James Obst was under the gun with {A-Spades}{9-Spades} and had gotten the chips in against a player who held {6-}{5-} for a flopped open-ended straight draw. Obst's hand held and he took the pot to double up.
