Jachtmann Among Big Stacks in Brasilia Room

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

Jan-Peter Jachtmann has nearly doubled his stack in the first level of the day in the Brasilia room and some other notables that built their stack include Brian Altman, Doug Polk and Shaun Deeb.

Sakura Sugawara had called Shaun Deeb's raise and Brian Altman came along from the big blind to see a flop of {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{3-Clubs}. Action checked to Sugawara, who bet 1,100, and just Altman called. Both checked the {6-Clubs} turn and Altman's bet of 1,150 on the {10-Diamonds} river was called by Sugawara. Altman rolled over {K-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and that won the pot.

Dentale Mucks on the River

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

Michael Dentale just lost a roughly 12,000 pot on the river just now. Both he and one other player checked the river on a {4-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{4-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Dentale couldn't beat his opponent. Despite this, Dentale is already off to a decent start, adding to his starting stack.

"Cuz" Sets Up Stevens to Double Up

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

Steven "Cuz" Buckner raised from early position and a player in middle position called. Scott Stevens re-raised to 2,700 from the big blind and both players called.

They saw a flop of {q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} and Stevens led out with a bet of 5,000. Buckner raised to 12,000 and with the action back on Stevens he made it 30,000. Buckner moved all-in and Stevens called for about 45,000 total.

Stevens turned over {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} but Buckner was holding {q-Spades}{q-Clubs} for top set. The turn {10-Clubs} and river {4-Clubs} sealed the deal for Buckner who moved over the century chip mark and Stevens was eliminated.

Woods Hits a King on the River to Crack Zuidema's Aces

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

Robert Woods and Brandon Zuidema just got involved in a pre-flop raising war. The end result was Zuidema moving all-in and Woods calling for 42,125.

Woods turned over {k-Clubs}{k-Spades} and Zuidema was holding {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}. A small crowd had developed around the table and watched as the dealer spread the {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop. The turn {4-Diamonds} was no help to Woods but the {k-Diamonds} hit the river and the table erupted.

Woods spiked his two outer to improve to a full house and cracked Zuidema's aces to double up.

Calamusa Takes Wong Out

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

2006 Main Event Champion Jamie Gold is in the field and seated on the same table as Pierre Calamusa who is sporting a big stack already. Calamusa was kind enough to recount what had happened between him and Brandon Wong.

"I had {k-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and I raised to 400, he three-bet to 1,300 and I called. The flop came {6-}{4-}{2-} (rainbow). I check-call the 1,500 bet. The turn was a {k-}, I check-call his 3,500 bet. The river was another {k-Clubs}, I check-shove on his 10,000 bet. He had {a-}{k-}."

Gold said to Calamusa: "So that's how you win?"

Calamusa: "You've already won this. It's my turn to win."
