Gorodinsky Gets a Surprise Scoop

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Stud-8

Gorodinsky: {x-}{x-} / {7-Clubs}{8-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} / {x-}
Ahmed: {x-}{x-}/ {3-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{7-Hearts} / {x-}
Fotiadis: {x-}{x-} / {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{q-Spades} FOLD

Owais Ahmed brought in, and Mike Gorodinsky called, as did Goeroge Fotiadis. Gorodinsky fired out when it was checked to him, and both players called. Gorodinsky bet again on fifth, and this time, Fotiadis got out of the way. On sixth street, Gorodinsky checked, and Ahmed fired out this time. Gorodinsky called, and both players checked on seventh.

Gorodinsky showed {3-Diamonds}{2-Spades} for a pair of eights and an 8-7-4 low. Ahmed showed {a-Spades}{3-Spades} and started to collect his bets, thinking it was a chop. However, upon further inspection, Ahmed had just an 8-7-5 low, giving the whole pot to Gorodinsky. Ahmed then admitted "I misread my hand I thought i had a seven low," and that mistake cost Ahmed an extra bet, and half of the pot.

Gorodinsky is back up to 1.3 million, while Ahmed falls down to 580,000.

Ashton Finds a Key Scoop

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Matthew Ashton at WSOP Event 05 Day 3 Final Table
Matthew Ashton at WSOP Event 05 Day 3 Final Table

Omaha-8

From under the gun, Kristopher Tong limped in. Owais Ahmed raised on the button, Matthew Ashton called from the small blind, Mike Gorodinsky called from the big blind, and Tong called following his limp. That brought the four players to the {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop, and Ashton checked. Gorodinsky also checked, as did Tong, before Ahmed fired a bet. Ashton raised, Gorodinsky and Tong folded, then Ahmed called.

The turn was was the {3-Clubs}, and Ashton fired a bet. Ahmed made the call to see the {8-Spades} come on the river. Ashton checked, and Ahmed checked behind.

Ashton showed the {A-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for an ace-five low and two pair, sixes and threes. Ahmed showed the {A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for the second best hand for both the high and the low, giving Ashton a key scoop.

Fotiadis Doubles Through Ahmed

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Omaha-8

Shortly after getting knocked down to 15,000, Fotiadis was able to get some chips by chopping a four handed pot that got to the river. On the next hand, Fotiadis got the rest of his money in preflop, and Ahmed was the lone caller.

Ahmed: {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{6-Spades}
Fotiadis: {a-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{8-Hearts}

Fotiadis was going to be in great shape if the board brought high cards, and that's what happened, as the board ran down {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades}{k-Hearts}{3-Hearts}, giving Fotiadis the complete double to 95,000.

Fotiadis Knocked Way Down, but Fights To Stay Alive

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 3,000 ante

Stud-8

George Fotiadis({x-}{x-}) / {A-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{4-Clubs} / ({x-})
Kristopher Tong({8-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}) / {2-Spades}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Clubs} / ({K-Hearts})

George Fotiadis check-called on fourth street before calling bets from Kristopher Tong on fifth, sixth and seventh street. Tong had trip deuces and scooped the entire pot against Fotiadis, who mucked his hand.

That pot left Fotiadis with just 7,000 in chips, but he was able to chop the next hand of stud-8 by making a low against Matthew Ashton's two pair to get some chips back. He then chopped the next hand in Omaha-8 with three queens against Mike Gorodinsky's nut low, giving him a little bit more life, but not much.

Gorodinsky Still has Ashton's Number

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 3,000 ante

Omaha-8

Mike Gorodinsky has been sitting on Matthew Ashton's throughout the final table, and he hasn't been making life easy for Ashton. He has just taken another pot off Ashton that has strengthened his chip lead in this tournament. Ashton raised it up, and Gorodinsky three bet from the button. George Fotiadis called from the small blind, and Ashton also called. The flop came down {2-Spades}{k-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}, and it was checked to Gorodinsky, who bet out. Both players called, and when Gorodinsky bet the {3-Hearts} on the turn, only Ashton called. The river was the {q-Spades}, and Ashton check called once more.

Gorodinsky tabled {a-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for the nut low and a pair of sevens, and Ashton studied his hole cards for a bit before kicking them in. After that one, Ashton is down to 358,000, while Gorodinsky is up to 1.3 million.

Tong Takes Small One

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 3,000 ante

Omaha-8

Matthew Ashton raised from the button, and Kristopher Tong made the call. The flop came {9-Spades}{8-Hearts}{a-Spades}, and Tong check called a bet from Ashton. From there, they checked down the {7-Clubs} on the turn and the {4-Spades} on the river. Tong showed {9-Clubs}{8-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} for two pair, and even though there was a low draw on board, Ashton mucked his hand.

Chop, Chop

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 3,000 ante

Omaha-8

Matthew Ashton kept up with his recent aggressive ways and raised from under the gun. George Fotiadis called from the small blind, and these two would do battle again.

This time, the flop came down {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}, and both players checked to see the {4-Diamonds} land on the turn. Both players checked again, and the river produced the {6-Spades}. Fotiadis fired a bet, and Ashton raised. Fotiadis called.

Ashton showed the {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} for two pair, aces and jacks, plus the nut low. Fotiadis showed the {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{Q-Spades}{8-Hearts} for a full house, jacks over aces, and the two chopped up the pot.

Matthew Ashton raised from the cutoff seat, and George Fotiadis called from the big blind. The flop came down {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{8-Spades}, and Fotiadis check-called a bet from Ashton to see the {K-Hearts} pair the board on the turn. Fotiadis checked, Ashton bet, and Fotiadis called.

The {A-Hearts} then completed the board on the river, and Fotiadis checked. Ashton checked behind.

Fotiadis showed {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}, but before he could show his other two cards, Ashton tabled the {K-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs} for trips and won the pot. Fotiadis mucked his other two cards.
