Chad Brown brought in, John Hennigan completed, and Chris Tryba, Kevin Tang and Brown all made the call. All four players checked on fourth and Tryba bet when he made the highest pair showing on fifth. Tang and Brown called while Hennigan got out of the way and the action was the same on sixth. On seventh, it was checked to Brown who bet and Tryba slammed the table before he made the call. Tang folded and Brown showed for a flush as Tryba frustratingly mucked. Tryba was extremely short with barely more than one big bet left while we couldn’t get a count on Brown as he was stacking his chips but we will get that for you shortly.
Alexander Kostritsyn raised on third and Wahlbeck made it two bets before the Russian put in three bets. Wahlbeck called then called bets on fourth and calling the rest off on fifth with the flush draw again Kostritsyn's trip tens. Kostritsyn couldn't boat up but Wahlbeck couldn't find a heart either and was knocked out in 13th place.
Christopher George had the bring in and Sorel Mizzi called before Nick Schulman completed. George and Mizzi both called the raise and then called a bet on fourth street. On fifth Mizzi lead out, Schulman raised and Mizzi reraised to effectively put Schulman in. Schulman showed rolled up tens and Mizzi held kings up but it was Schulman who made his full house on seventh and Mizzi mucked his hand, unable to hit a king.
Steve Landfish brought in, Sorel Mizzi completed and Landfish made the call. On fourth Mizzi bet and Landfish called. Mizzi check-called Landfish’s bet on fifth but went back to betting on sixth which Landfish called. The action was the same on seventh and Mizzi turned over for a full house which was good over the flush that Landfish had claimed he back into. It was not the start that the start of the day chip leader was looking for.
Jason Mercier completed and Men Nguyen raised. Mercier made the call and called Nguyen’s bet on fourth. Nguyen check-called Mercier’s bet on fifth and checked again on sixth. Mercier bet and Nguyen check-raised him all in. Mercier made the call for his tournament life and was behind with a pair of tens against the jacks of Nguyen. Mercier turned his last card over first and it was the which was no help to him as he was eliminated. The defending champ Nguyen was off to a good start to the day.
Fourteen players remain going into the final day of this event, and relative unknown (at least compared to most of the remaining field) Steve Landfish is the big chip leader. Landfish previously finished 16th in this event back in 2009 and will be hoping to improve even more than two places on that result.
John Hennigan is in second place, way ahead of Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier in third, while names such as Chad Brown, Jason Mercier, Alexander Kostritsyn, Sorel Mizzi and last year's champion Men Nguyen all still remain with a shot.
Play will begin at 3pm with the final table moving to the feature table in the "thunderdome" area of the Amazon room.
