The early stages has witnessed little in the way of action, with most hands being picked up preflop with a single raise. We did see one flop, however, when Michael Goldfarb opened to 100,000 from early position, Johan Jakobsson reraised to 280,000 two seats along and Goldfarb made the call.
The flop came the , and despite being the less aggressive preflop, Goldfarb took it down with a leading bet of 225,000. As a result, Goldfarb is hovering around the 1,500,000 mark.
There are a ton of Brazilians on the rail tonight, and four of them represent Team PokerStars,
Maria "Maridu" Mayrinck, Gualter Salles, Andre Akkari and Alexandre Gomes are all here to support their countryman Thiago Nishijima. There is a flag of Brazil, plenty of "futebol" jerseys and of course, everyone's favorite World Cup noisemaker, a green vuvuzela.
If Portuguese isn't your native language, then you are probably outnumbered at this final table.
Johan Jakobsson open-shoved for 665,000 from middle position and action folded to Thiago Nishijima who called from the cutoff. The button and blinds released, and the hands were tabled:
Showdown
Jakobsson:
Nishijima:
Most everyone in the final table area was on their feet as the flop fell .
"Oito! Oito! Oito!" Nishijima's rail shouted in Portuguese.
The on the turn was close to an eight, and those decked out in green and yellow let out a loud, "Oooooooooooh."
The on the river was a brick as well, and Jakobsson doubled through to 1,350,000 chips while Nishijima slipped to 1,820,000.
With just a few minutes on the clock, the organisers decided to continue playing nine-handed before relocating to a feature table. On the final hand, Shaun Malough raised to 85,000 from under the gun and Thiago Nishijima made the call on the button.
On the flop, Malough bet 175,000 and Nishijima called. The turn brought the and both players checked. They also checked the river, Nishijima taking the pot down with versus .
After conceding on the end - although, he seemed mighty tempted - Malough is down to 1,050,000. Meanwhile, play has been stopped and the finalists sent on their 60 minute dinner break. Play will therefore resume at approximately 8.20pm. Be there or be... just be there!
Edward Yoo was nursing the shortest stack at our unofficial final table when he open-shoved from under the gun. Steven Brown re-shoved right next to him, and everyone else got out of the way.
Showdown
Yoo:
Brown:
Brown's tens held as the board ran , and Yoo is eliminated from the tournament.
Johan Jakobsson raised to 75,000, only for fellow short stack Steven Brown to push all in from middle position for a total of 527,000. The action halted on big blind Michael Goldfarb momentarily, but after he reluctantly mucked his hand, Jackobsson made the call.
The crowd groaned in unison as both players revealed the same hand, versus . The board offered little to satisfy their thirst for blood, and the pot was chopped up.
Goldfarb, meanwhile, was busy patting himself on the back - quite literally - and boasting about how he relinquished .
Raymond Coburn opened to 75,000 in middle position and Kevin Odell defended his big blind.
The flop fell and Odell checked to Coburn who continued for 80,000. Odell called.
The turn brought the and Odell opted to check again. Coburn fired 160,000 and Odell again called.
The fell on the river and this time Odell led out. 400,000 was the bet and after just a moment or two, Coburn open mucked for a set of fours. Odell didn't show, rather he just raked in another big pot.
Justin Conley raised to 60,000 preflop and Johan Jakobsson made the call in the big blind. Jakobsson then check-folded to a bet of 60,000 on the flop to pick up the pot. Conley up to 900,000; Jakobsson down to 740,000.
