Tran Turns Away from Trouble

After a flop of {4-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{5-Spades}, a player in the small blind bet 4,500, and J.C. Tran called from the button. The turn was the {J-Diamonds}. This time the SB bet 5,000, and Tran promptly raised to 12,000. His opponent then pushed all in for 16,725 total, and Tran stepped aside.

Tran has 110,000.

Watch Out For ElkY

Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier
Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier
Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier opened the action with a raise under the gun to 1,500. The play folded around to the small blind who raised to 5,000.

Grospellier popped it up once again to make it 18,500 before his opponent moved all in for a few thousand more. Grospellier made the call.

Grospellier: {A-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}
Opponent: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}

The board ran out {2-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} and Grospellier spiked a pair of kings on the river to eliminate his opponent.

Grospellier is up to a healthy 160,000 chips.

Wong Walks

With a raise to 1,700 and a call in front of him, Steve Wong made the call from the big blind.

The flop fell down {4-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and Wong checked, as did the original raiser, before the player in the cutoff made it 3,200 to go. Wong called as the original raiser dropped out.

When the turn landed the {A-Clubs} Wong pushed all in for just over 16,000 and was insta-called by his opponent.

Wong: {A-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}

The river would peel off the {6-Clubs} to see Wong exit the tournament.

Hellmuth Has Chips

Phil Hellmuth

After a raise to 1,300 from late position, Phil Hellmuth called from the small blind, and the big blind came along as well.

The flop came {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}, and Hellmuth led with a bet of 1,500. The player to his left raised to 3,800, chasing the original raiser out of the hand.

"Wow," said Hellmuth, sitting up and smiling before letting his hand go. The Poker Brat had a good first level today, and has chipped up to 75,000 now. Meanwhile, Todd "Dan Druff" Witteles who began this afternoon also at the main feature table with a short stack is no longer there, and appears not to have survived early action today.

Arieh's Big Call

Josh Arieh
Josh Arieh
The button raised and Josh Arieh called in the small blind, the big blind calling too.

The flop was {9-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} and Arieh led out for 5,700. The big blind raised to 15,000 and the button folded, Arieh made the call before check-calling 20,000 on the {5-Clubs} turn.

The river was {8-Hearts} and Arieh checked again before his opponent moved all in for 21,475. Arieh made the call with just a measly {5-Hearts} {4-Hearts} but it was good as his opponent only could flip {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} for nothing at all.

The former 3rd place finisher of the Main Event in 2004 is up to 180,000.

Chips for Childs

In the last hand of the level, Lee Childs opened with a raise to 1,500 from the hijack seat, and Ken Aldridge called from the button. The flop came {7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. Childs checked, Aldridge bet 1,400, and Childs called. Both checked the {5-Spades} on the turn.

The river brought the {9-Hearts}, and Childs spent some time stacking his relatively short stack, obviously contemplating whether or not to put it all in. Finally he checked, and Aldridge checked behind. Childs turned over {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}, and exhaled when he saw Aldridge's {J-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}.

Childs is at 18,000 now, while Aldridge is sitting much more comfortably with 90,000.

Bonomo Dodges Bullets

Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo
We arrived at the table to see a flop of {10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} and Justin Bonomo faced with a tricky decision. We're unsure of the action but with over 10,000 in the pot, Bonomo was staring at a 15,000-chip decision.

"That's a big bet. You have a big hand?" said Bonomo.

After a few minutes of thought, Bonomo sighed, "Nice hand, you win..." and folded pocket queens face up!

His opponent acknowledged the fold of Bonomo and flashed pocket aces!

Another player at the table piped up, "You shouldn't have showed him! He has enough confidence as it is!"

A great fold by Bonomo sees him hang onto his 130,000 chip stack.
