Good Game, Alex Jacob

Alex Jacob, in a Day 1 photo, was eliminated
Alex Jacob, in a Day 1 photo, was eliminated
Alex Jacob is out of the tournament. Most of the dirty work was done in a hand where he and one opponent were all in preflop. Jacob had {A-Spades} {K-Clubs} against his opponent's {J-Spades} {J-Diamonds} and couldn't connect with a board of {7-Spades} {5-Spades} {6-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {5-Hearts}. That hand left him with just 100 chips. He got them in with {5-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} against an opponent's {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}. Neither player improved.

John Caldwell Doubles Up

Ship it to Schecky
Ship it to Schecky
John Caldwell raised to 1,600, an early-position player called, and the small blind called. The flop was {9-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {4-Clubs}. The small blind checked, Caldwell bet 1,300, the small blind moved all in and Caldwell made the call.

Caldwell's {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades} was up against the small blind's {J-Clubs} {9-Clubs} and held up through the {8-Diamonds} turn and the {4-Hearts} river. "Schecky" is now up to 35,000.

Ladies Love Johnson

From the cutoff, Ryan Young raised to 2,000. The small blind, Brad Johnson, reraised to 6,250. Young then moved all in for 49,000 and Johnson made the call.

Young: {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts}
Johnson: {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}

The flop was {J-Clubs} {10-Spades} {8-Diamonds} giving Young a gutshot to Broadway and still two overcards. Johnson had a gutter himself and still the best hand.

The turn was the {6-Hearts} and then the river the {9-Hearts}, giving Johnson his straight and the best hand.

Young was eliminated and Johnson moved up to 102,000 on the hand.

Eric Hershler Eliminated

Preflop, Eric Hershler moved all in and was called in two spots. Hershler held {A-Clubs} {K-Hearts}, and his opponents held {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} and {A-Spades} {K-Spades} respectively.

Board: {5-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}

Hershler hit his king on the river, but unfortuantely, it completed another player's flush, and Hershler is out the door.

Rough Flop

Henrik Lennholm had led out preflop for 1,500 and was called by a single opponent. The flop ran {K-?} {K-?} {K-?} and after his opponent checked, Henrik led out with a small bet. His opponent laid the hand down, with Henrik showing pocket aces. Talk about a rough flop for rockets!

Henrik is sitting with 55,000 after the hand.

More Chipping Up By Michelle

The player under the gun opened with a raise to 1,500. Torgier Homme called from early position, and action passed around to Tiffany Michelle in the small blind. She put in a reraise, making it 15,000 to play. The original raiser folded, but Homme came along.

Heads up, the flop came down {10-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {5-Clubs}, and both players checked. The turn brought the {4-Hearts}. Michelle checked, Homme bet 5,000, Michelle raised to 10,000, and Homme called.

Fifth street was the {J-Hearts}. Michelle asked Homme, "Will you call 15 or 20?" He said nothing, and Michelle bet out 20,000. Homme tanked for about three minutes before making the call.

Michelle flipped over {K-Spades} {J-Spades}, and Homme mucked his hand. Hers was the winner, and she has moved up to right arond the 100,000-chip mark.

Ryan Hughes Sends Two to the Rail

Ryan Hughes - Event #47
Ryan Hughes - Event #47
Amnon Filippi and Charles Large were just sent home courtesy of Ryan Hughes.

All three players were all in preflop with Hughes having the biggest stack. They showed:

Hughes: {9-Diamonds} {9-Clubs}
Large: {A-Clubs} {K-Clubs}
Filippi: {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades}

The board ran out {8-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} and the pocket nines of Ryan Hughes were best. He eliminated two players and chipped up to just over 70,000 in the process.

Vengrin Doubles Through Law

Matt Vengrin, during Event #43
Matt Vengrin, during Event #43
Bobby Law raised it up preflop and Matt Vengrin made the call. They went to a flop of {4-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Law checked over to Vengrin who led out for 2,500. Law then raised enough to put Vengrin all in and he snap-called.

Law: {5-Spades}{6-Hearts}
Vengrin: {Q-Spades}{10-Hearts}

Vengrin was in front with top pair as Law attempted to complete his straight draw. The turn was the {9-Hearts} and river the {2-Diamonds} to give Vengrin the pot and a double-up to 31,000 chips.

The King is Dead, Long Live the King

Jerry Yang, from Day 1d
Jerry Yang, from Day 1d
Jerry Yang, the defending world champion, has just been eliminated. Yang lost all but 2,200 of his stack in an earlier pot and moved in with {A-Clubs} {2-Clubs}, and it looked like his reign was about to end when he was called by a player holding {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}. But in what was perhaps one last moment of divine intervention, the board ran out {6-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} and the two players chopped the pot, much to the delight of the spectators gathered around the feature table.

But Yang's reprieve would be short-lived. He got his money in good with {A-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} to his opponent's {A-Spades} {9-Clubs}, but the flop came {5-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {6-Spades} and there was no miracle forthcoming. As the crowd chanted "Jack, jack, jack!" the board ran out {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} and Jerry was eliminated.

He walked around the table and shook each player's hand and said, "Good luck to everyone," and he received a big round of applause when his elimination was announced to the crowd. And so, there will be a new champion crowned this year.

Shulman Takes a Hit

On a flop of {9-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}, an under the gun opponent moved all in for around 21,000 chips. Allyn Jaffrey Shulman made the call and had the opponent covered.

Shulman held {10-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} and her opponent held {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs}. The turn fell the {2-Clubs} and river the {7-Clubs} and Shulman moved down to 13,200 after the hand.
