The King is Dead, Long Live the King

Jerry Yang, from Day 1d
Jerry Yang, from Day 1d
Jerry Yang, the defending world champion, has just been eliminated. Yang lost all but 2,200 of his stack in an earlier pot and moved in with {A-Clubs} {2-Clubs}, and it looked like his reign was about to end when he was called by a player holding {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}. But in what was perhaps one last moment of divine intervention, the board ran out {6-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} and the two players chopped the pot, much to the delight of the spectators gathered around the feature table.

But Yang's reprieve would be short-lived. He got his money in good with {A-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} to his opponent's {A-Spades} {9-Clubs}, but the flop came {5-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {6-Spades} and there was no miracle forthcoming. As the crowd chanted "Jack, jack, jack!" the board ran out {Q-Clubs} {10-Clubs} and Jerry was eliminated.

He walked around the table and shook each player's hand and said, "Good luck to everyone," and he received a big round of applause when his elimination was announced to the crowd. And so, there will be a new champion crowned this year.
