Laak Recovers Some Chips

Phil Laak, during Event #7
Phil Laak, during Event #7
An early-position player raised to 1,800 and Phil Laak made the call in the big blind. The flop came {9-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{A-Hearts} and Laak led out for 2,500 with his opponent making the call.

The turn of the {K-Diamonds} was checked around. The river landed the {2-Diamonds} and Laak moved all in for his last 28,000 chips. His opponent folded. Laak claimed that he held {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} before raking in the pot. Laak now sits with 37,000 chips.

Missed Double-Up for Henrik

Henrik Lennholm was all in on a flop of {8-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {6-Spades} holding pocket sixes for a flopped set. His opponent showed {A-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} and Henrik appeared to be in great shape. However, the board came runner-runner for a straight and both players chopped the pot.

Henrik wasn't eliminated, but he missed a great chance to double through someone.

Elizabeth Eliminated

"If you knock her out, we're not going to be happy with you."

Said someone at Shannon Elizabeth's table just now. Elizabeth had raised all in with her last 10,000 or so from the cutoff, and got one caller.

Elizabeth showed {A-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}, and her opponent held {A-Spades}{J-Spades}. The board ran out {7-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. Elizabeth is out, leaving her vanquisher to deal with his unhappy tablemates.

"Nice Hand, Mr. Chan"

Johnny Chan raised to 1,900 from late position, then the player in the big blind reraised to 7,000. Chan called.

Both checked the {8-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} flop. The turn brought the {9-Diamonds}. Chan bet 10,000, then his opponent raised to 30,000 total. Chan thought a moment, then made the call.

The river was the {Q-Clubs}. This time Chan fired out seven orange chips -- a bet of 35,000. His opponent -- who only had a total of 37,000 -- thought for three minutes, then let it go.

"I didn't think you were bluffing," said Shawn Sheikhan to Chan's opponent. "I thought bluffing was illegal." Sheikhan then turned to Chan, sitting on Sheikhan's left. "Nice hand, Mr. Chan," he said.

Mr. Chan is up to 130,000.

Ramaekers Maeking It

On a flop of {8-Spades}{K-Spades}{10-Clubs}, the big blind checks and Frank Ramaekers bets 2,400 on the button. The big blind calls.

The turn is {A-Clubs} and the big blind checks. Ramaekers bets 2,400 again and the big blind check-raises to 7,400. Ramaekers calls.

The river is {2-Diamonds} and the big blind bets 65,000. Ramaekers calls.

Ramaekers shows {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} to the big blind's {A-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} and takes it down. He has 72,000.

Overhead During the Break

In the remaining field of 2000+ players, most of which are amateurs, there are bound to be a few comedic ramblings. Here are just a few excerpts of one-sided cell phone conversations overheard during the break.

"So this guy calls me all the way down, and I'm firing the whole way, and he shows me pocket threes...I mean they were good but that's not the point."

"I've been letting this guy bully me all day...just waiting...waiting for him to get out of line when I had a hand, sure as sh*t I pick up kings and stack off against him and he has aces."

"Just let me tell you this one more hand...why not?....but it's so sick!...no no! this one isn't a bad beat story..."

"I've got like 30K right now...but I'm telling you that these players are so bad I'll lay you even money I'm chip leader by dinner break."

He Started the Day Habering Dreams

Eric Haber opened the pot with a raise from the cutoff before the button player reraised. Before long, both players' chips were in the middle and their cards face up. Haber showed {J-Clubs} {J-Spades} to his opponent's {Q-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}.

We're off to the races as the board came {Q-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {5-Clubs} {8-Spades}.

Trip queens were enough to do the fatal damage to Haber, who wandered off.

The Worst Chairs in the History of Poker

Johnny Chan has been complaining to the floor that his chair is really uncomfortable and that he would like a new one. Then he went on to say that the chairs in the Brasilia are the worst in poker history!

In the meantime a player behind him was a lot happier after making a royal flush. No free massage prize on offer today.
