New Chip Leader

Preflop, Terry Lade, who wants us to call him Steve Lade, raises to 5,000 and Leonid Yanovski reraises to 22,500. Lade calls.

The flop is {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Leonid checks. Lade is all in for more than 100,000 and Leonid goes into the tank.

"I don't want you to call," says Steve. "I will take that little pot and go."

Another player at the table calls the clock, and with a single second to go, Leonid calls. He shows {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs} to the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} of Lade.

The turn and river are {5-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} and Leonid is eliminated. Lade now has 300,000.

John Caldwell Eliminated

Sorry, Schecky
Sorry, Schecky
On a board reading {10-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {6-Spades} {A-Clubs}, John Caldwell bet 3,500 and James Morris called. The river was the {K-Spades} and both players checked. Morris rolled over {8-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} for two pair and Caldwell mucked. He was left with just under 15,000.

On a subsequent hand, Caldwell moved all in from middle position and Milan Andrejkovics called from the button. Caldwell turned up {6-Hearts} {6-Clubs} only to discover he was up against Andrejkovis' {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs}. The board ran out {K-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} and Caldwell hit the rail.

Levin Leavin'

Randy Levin got all of his chips in the middle on a flop of {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{8-Spades}. Levin had {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}. Unfortunately for him, his opponent held pocket jacks for the set.

The turn brought a {10-Spades}, giving Levin some outs. But the river was the {A-Clubs} and Levin is out.

Wary of Each Other

Johnny Chan raised to 2,500 from under the gun and only Shawn "Sheiky" Sheikhan called, from the big blind. The flop came {5-Diamonds} {6-Spades} {7-Clubs} and both players checked. The turn came {K-Diamonds} and both players checked once more.

The river came {3-Hearts} and finally someone took a stab at the pot. Sheikhan bet out for 4,000, causing Johnny to thinking for a few minutes. He finally folded {A-?} {Q-?} face-up, handing the pot to Sheikhan, who's up to 45,000.

David Cowling Eliminated

David Cowling and a single opponent took a flop of {10-Spades} {9-Spades} {4-Hearts}. Cowling found himself all in holding {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} against the {A-Spades} {4-Spades} of his opponent.

There was little time for suspense as the dealer quickly laid the {2-Spades} on the turn. Cowling slapped the table in disgust. The meaningless {K-Clubs} hit the river and Cowling headed for the exit.

Double Up Orr Go Home

On the turn, with a board showing {4-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} {J-Spades} {10-Clubs}, Eldon Orr moved all in for approximately 13,000 chips and was called by a player on the button.

Orr held {A-Clubs} {9-Spades} and his opponent held {10-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds}. The river was a blank to both players and Orr is out the door.

The Case of the Case Ace

We spoke to Ryan Elson just before the beginning of Level 7. He was short-stacked, but said he thought it would be a good couple of hours coming up.

A player at his table raised to 2,000 from middle position, and Elson thought a bit before calling him from the cutoff. That left Elson only about 11,000 or so behind.

The flop came {6-Clubs}{A-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Elson's opponent quickly checked. Elson sat in contemplation for a minute or so, then decided to push all in. "Call," came his opponent's response, a bit too quickly for comfort.

Elson had {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for top pair. But his opponent held {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}. "Clubs!" said Elson. Alas, the turn brought the {J-Diamonds} and the river the {4-Hearts}, and Elson's day was done.

He shook hands with several at the table. "Nice hand, brother!" he told his opponent in the hand with a smile.

And the tournament goes on. Elson is one of over 600 players who we've seen eliminated already today.

Archie "The Greek" Karas Eliminated

Archie Karas - Eliminated
Archie Karas - Eliminated
After players limped into the pot, a flop of {Q-?} {7-?} {3-?} hit the board. The big blind led out for 3,000 and got a caller from middle position. Archie Karas pushed all in from the button for 10,500 and the big blind called. The middle-position player passed and the players showed:

Karas: {Q-?} {3-?}
Opponent: {Q-?} {7-?}

There was no help for Karas on fourth or fifth streets and he was eliminated.

Josephy Continues Elimination Streak

Moments after eliminating a player. Cliff Josephy eliminated another after calling an opponent's all-in preflop. Josephy held pocket queens while his opponent had Q-10. The pocket queens were good for Josephy, who spiked a set on the turn, and is now close to 200,000 in chips.
