Evelyn Ng Climbing Back

Just before the break, on a flop of {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{10-Hearts}, Evelyn Ng checks in the big blind and the hijack bets 5,000. The cutoff folds and Evelyn calls.

The turn is {3-Clubs} and both check.

The river is {2-Clubs} and Evelyn bets 5,000. The hijack calls.

Evelyn shows {7-Spades}{7-Hearts} and the hijack shows {6-Clubs}{6-Spades}. Evelyn is up to 90,000.

Life in the Fast Layne

Chad Layne limps in in late position and the small blind raises to 2,500. Layne calls.

On a flop of {9-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{10-Spades}, the small blind bets 4,500 and Layne calls.

The turn is {K-Hearts} and the small blind checks. Layne bets 12,000 and the small blind calls.

The river is {7-Diamonds} and the small blind checks. Layne bets 35,000 and the small blind calls.

Layne shows {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades} and takes it. He's up to 200,000.

Missing in Action

We're almost at the end of the second level and there's at least one player who didn't return for Day Two. Gavin Kelly started the day with 38,150 chips and what with his blinds and antes being taken from his stack he's down to around 15,000. His original table in the Orange section of the Amazon Room broke and he's now sitting--or, to be accurate, not sitting--in the Green section, Table 11, Seat 5. We'll keep an eye out to see if and when he arrives.

Isabelle Mercier Eliminated

Isabelle Mercier - Eliminated
Isabelle Mercier - Eliminated
The exact details of the hand are unclear, but Isabelle Mercier stacked off with an opponent on a flop of {6-?} {6-?} {5-?}. Mercier rolled over {J-?} {J-?} but her opponent had outflopped her with {6-?} {5-?}.

No {J-?} on the turn or river meant the end of the road for Ms. Mercier.

A Can Do for Sheikhan

Shawn Sheikhan
Shawn Sheikhan
Big hand just developed between Shawn Sheikhan and Johnny Chan.

With the board showing {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{6-Spades}, Sheikhan had put in a bet and Chan raised him an additional 15,000. Sheikhan then reraised all in for 56,000, and Chan made the call.

Sheikhan showed {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} for the full house, and Chan mucked. Sheikhan propels up to 115,000, while Chan slips to 57,000.

Strong Wang Eliminated

A player in early position raises to 2,000 and Strong Wang reraises all in to 6,500 in the cutoff. Richard Wyrick calls in the big blind and EP raises again, all in, for 20,300. Wyrick calls.

Wyrick: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
EP: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}
Wang: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

Board: {Q-Spades}{K-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{2-Spades}

Richard Wyrick has 38,000 left, and Strong Wang has left the building.

One More Time, With Gusto

Gus Hansen has been involved in quite a number of hands, as one might expect. We came upon another one just now.

On a board of {10-Spades}{J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}, and 15,000 already in the pot, Hansen checked, his opponent bet 6,000, Hansen check-raised to 20,000, and his opponent let it go.

Hansen is up to 102,000.

That Ain't Right

Tiffany Michelle just suffered a big beat. After an opponent raised to 2,000 preflop and Tony Antonious called, Michelle reraised to 10,000. The original raiser folded, but Antonious, who has already been given an "excessive celebration" warning, made the call.

The flop came down {2-Hearts} {7-Hearts} {10-Hearts}. Antonious led out for 16,000, prompting Michelle to quickly push all in. Antonious called for less, a total of 65,000.

Antonious: {Q-Hearts} {10-Clubs}
Michelle: {A-Diamonds} {A-Spades}

Antonious didn't have to sweat long -- the turn was the {10-Diamonds} and the river fell {Q-Clubs} to make a full house, tens full of queens, for Antonious. Michelle was described as "fuming," asking Antonious questions like, "How could you call?" When Antonious pointed out his flush draw, Michelle responded that she made it 10,000 preflop. Antonious responded by showing a photo of his house in Florida and suggesting they should both go fishing after the tournament was over.

We doubt that will happen. Michelle is still in the tournament with 24,000 chips, while Antonious now has 190,000.
