The Life of Brian

'I knew the eight was coming!'
'I knew the eight was coming!'
Brian Townsend just took a step back in the right direction. He reraised a player preflop and then led out for a 4,000 bet on a {8-Spades} {3-Hearts} {8-Clubs} flop.

The bet was called before the turn came {9-Diamonds} and Townsend check-called his opponent's all-in bet of 20,000. Townsend turned over {8-Hearts} {4-Hearts} for flopped trips and his opponent showed {A-?} {10-?} for, errr, air.

The all-in player rivered a {K-Hearts} but it was no good and he heads out the door. Townsend nearing 70,000 again.

Kirk Morrison Eliminated

James McManus opened the action with a raise to 800 from middle position and Kirk Morrison flat called from the big blind.

They took a flop of {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{7-Spades} and Morrison checked to McManus who fired a continuation bet of 1,100. Morrison made the call.

The turn was the {3-Clubs} and Morrison checked again to McManus who fired a second barrel worth 2,500. Morrison then announced he was all in and McManus snap-called.

"Noooo, are you sure you don't want to fold?!?" cried Morrison knowing that he was in trouble with his {K-Spades}{10-Spades}. Trouble indeed, as McManus showed {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades} for a set of jacks. A meaningless {9-Hearts} on the river, and Morrison stood and shook all of his opponents' hands before heading to the rail.

Before he exited, he spoke to our desk and wanted us to convey his thanks to all of the folks back at "The Gables" for their support as they followed our coverage. He also mentioned to us about an upcoming event he is involved with in the Cook Islands, so we look forward to hearing more from Kirk in the future.

In Brightest Day, In Blackest Night....

I wonder if he has a power ring too..
I wonder if he has a power ring too..
At the World Series of Poker you see a lot of interesting articles of clothing. One thing that we haven't seen any of this year are superhero shirts. Normally when you see superhero shirts, you see a lot of Superman and Batman shirts. Louie Cohen broke that trend today when he arrived wearing a Green Lantern shirt.

In brightest day, in blackest night, no aces shall escape his sight.

Amit Omitted

With a board showing {Q-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{J-Spades}{9-Clubs}, Amit Makhija got the last of his chips in the middle and had a caller. Makhija had {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} for top two, but his opponent had {10-Spades}{8-Spades} for the straight.

The river was the {3-Clubs}, and Makhija was out.

Kings? That's not good.
Kings? That's not good.
Preflop, an under the gun player moved all in for 3,500. Gustafsson Bjorn then came over the top all in for 19,000. Mark Gregorich was in the big blind and called all in for around 5,000.

Bjorn held {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}, Gregorich held {8-Hearts} {8-Spades}, and the other player held {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades}.

Board: {Q-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {10-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}

Kings up were good enough for Bjorn to eliminate two players.

After the hand, Bjorn is up to 36,000 chips

Deuces Rule

Chris Moneymaker made a raise from the cut off and found the button and the small blind calling. The flop came down {3-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {7-Diamonds}.

It was checked to Moneymaker who fired 2,300 into the pot. The button folded before the small blind moved all in for 8,700. "This is a bad call, but let's try," said Moneymaker as he called with {A-Diamonds} {2-Clubs}.

He was indeed behind to the all-in player's {8-Spades} {8-Diamonds} until the turn came {2-Spades} and river {4-Hearts} to snatch the lead back for Moneymaker.

The player is eliminated while Moneymaker goes up to 74,000.

He Can Dodge Bullets, But They Don't Care

ESPN cameras have been filiming different pros through the Amazon Room since the beginning of the day. If they are in a big hand, or if something interesting is going on at the tables, the cameras are there.

Something interesting just occurred over in the Orange section. Phil Hellmuth came over and was shaking hands and chatting up different players. The ESPN camera crews didn't even move.

The Man Who Has Luck in the Morning . . .

. . . has luck in the afternoon. Or so an Irish proverb goes. Perhaps Irish poker pro Padraig Parkinson had some luck this morning.

A player in middle position shoved for 30,000, and Parkinson, down to just 11,500, decided it was a good time to try to double up.

Parkinson showed {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}, while his opponent showed {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. Fortunate timing for Parkinson, it appeared.

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}, and Parkinson is back up to 23,000.

The Man Known as Caldwell

John Caldwell
John Caldwell
John Caldwell has added some more chips to his stack after making a raise that found one caller. They both checked the {2-Clubs} {8-Clubs} {5-Hearts} flop before Caldwell bet the {5-Diamonds} and river {5-Spades}. He managed to get his opponent to fold on the river and he raked in the pot. Caldwell is at about 17,500 at the moment.
