Liz Lieu Flops a Boat

Liz Lieu - Event #53
Liz Lieu - Event #53
Liz Lieu raised to 600 from middle position and got a late-position caller. The player in the cutoff seat reraised to 1,800 and both Lieu and the middle-position player came along. The flop came {7-Clubs} {7-Spades} {6-Diamonds}. The action checked around and the {10-Spades} hit the turn. The action checked around again and the {J-Spades} came off on the river.

Lieu bet 1,300 and got one caller. She showed {6-Clubs} {6-Spades} for the flopped full house and her opponent mucked. She now commands a stack of about 45,000.

Ken Einiger Eliminated

An early-position player and a late-position player limped in, Ken Einiger moved all in from the small blind and both players called. The flop was {A-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {4-Spades}. The EP player checked, the LP player bet 1,000 and the EP player folded. Einiger's {Q-Hearts} {9-Hearts} could not outrun his opponent's {A-Spades} {K-Hearts} on the turn or river and he was eliminated.

Wrong Time to Bluff

Madsen in Event #53
Madsen in Event #53
Jeff Madsen related to us a recent hand, where on a flop of {J-?}{2-?}{2-?}, an opponent checked and he bet. The opponent called. The turn was {10-?} and the opponent bet. Madsen raised and the opponent called. The river was {7-Spades} and the opponent bet 5,000 into a 20,000 pot. Madsen called. Madsen turned over {9-?}{7-?} and the opponent had {Q-?}{9-?} for a busted straight. Madsen has chipped up to 55,000.

Butler Triples With Flopped Boat

Four limpers were in the pot preflop before Rhett Butler popped it up to 1,600 from the cutoff. Two players made the call.

They took a flop of {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and an early-position player led at the pot for 3,000. The middle-position player flat-called before Butler raised it up to 13,000. The EP player then reraised all in for 13,500 in total, and the action was with the MP player. He asked Butler how many chips he had behind and after discovering he had another 7,700 left, he decided to also move all in! Butler quipped "You have quad sixes, huh?" before making the call.

Butler flipped over {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for a flopped boat to hold the lead over the {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} and {6-Spades}{5-Spades} of his opponents.

The turn was the {5-Hearts} to make the middle-position player a smaller full house, but the {Q-Diamonds} on the river gave Butler a monsterous pot to jump up to 63,000 chips.

Zinn Zooms Up

A couple of big hands over at Juan Macieras and Mark Zinn's table have resulted in a significant exchange of chips.

On one of the hands, Macieras, who has been involved in numerous pots, called Zinn's all-in on a flop of 4-5-7. Zinn showed 6-8 for the nut straight, while Macieras had ace-five. The turn and river blanked out, and now Zinn has catapulted up to 51,000. Meanwhile, Macieras has slipped all of the way down to 13,000.

Falling Ut

On a turn of {2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{J-Spades}, a player under the gun checks. Ut Nguyen bets 1,500 in late position. The hijack calls. The button raises all in to 5,700 and UTG folds. Ut calls and the hijack calls.

The river is {K-Diamonds} and everyone checks.

Comically, Ut shows {8-Spades}{7-Spades}, the hijack shows {K-Spades}{9-Spades} and the button shows {A-Spades}{10-Spades} for three busted flush draws. The rivered king is good for the hijack and Ut is down to 14,000. If another spade had hit, there might have been trouble.

Joe Reitman Eliminated

On a board of {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{J-Spades} Joe Reitman checked the action to his opponent Raj Vohra who fired out 10,000 chips. Reitman made the call for his tournament life and tabled {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}, but found himself up against the dominant {A-Spades}{K-Clubs} of Vohra.

Reitman hits the rail while Vohra, who final-tabled the $5,000 no-limit Hold'em event earlier in the series, is now up to 43,000 chips.

Medic Cancels Life Support

Nenad Medic, who has been on life support for awhile now, has just managed to jump-start his day and is now up to 23,000.

Preflop, from the button, Medic made it 600 to go and was called by the big blind. The flop came {8-Spades} {3-Spades} {2-Hearts} and the big blind check-raised to 2,500. Medic raised to 6,000 and the big blind moved all in, having Medic covered.

Medic called and showed 8-3 for two pair. He was up against his opponent's pocket nines. The two pair held for Medic, which was good, as he was down to his last 7,000 earlier.

Giving Opponents Griff

Gavin Griffin limps in, in the hijack, and the small blind raises to 1,000. Griffin calls.

The flop is {6-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and the small blind bets 1,100. Griffin raises all in to 3,325. The small blind folds {8-Clubs}{8-Spades} face up and Griffin climbs back to 6,500.

Matt Graham Sends a Player Home

Matt Graham - Event #53
Matt Graham - Event #53
On a flop of {K-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {6-Clubs}, Matt Graham led out for 725 from late position. His only opponent, playing from the button, put in a raise to 2,200. Graham reraised to 5,200 and the button pushed all in. Graham made the call and the players showed:

Graham: {A-Clubs} {10-Hearts}
Opponent: {8-Clubs} {4-Clubs}

Graham had the nut flush draw and an inside straight draw. The turn blanked, falling the {7-Spades}, but the river was the {7-Clubs} giving Graham the flush and the win. He is now back to his starting stack of 20,000 chips.
