Giang Warfare

After the under-the-gun player raised, Chau Giang reraised. Only those two players went to the draw, with each taking one card. After the draw, the under-the-gun player bet out, and Giang called.

Both players stood pat on the second draw. Upon seeing Giang stand pat, the under-the-gun player checked the action to Giang. Giang fired out a bet, which the under-the-gun player called.

On the third draw the under-the-gun player broke his hand and drew one. Giang again stood pat. When the action was checked to him, he bet one more time. This time, the under-the-gun player folded.

Elmer Fudd, Go Home

After John Phan recently "rabbit-hunted," the floor got on the PA system in the Blue section of the Amazon Room. "Attention players and dealers in the deuce-to-seven tournament. There is NO rabbit hunting allowed. Repeat: No rabbit hunting allowed. Thank you."

"Hear that, Nick?" said Freddy Deeb to Nick Schulman. "That was for you."

"What's deuce-to-seven without rabbit hunting?" another player asked,

Phan Writes Own Plan

A player in late position raised and it folded to John Phan in the small blind. "Throw it away," he said to Phan. "Three-bet!" said Phan. The LP player called.

Phan drew one card, and his opponent took two. Phan bet and he called. On the second draw, Phan took one again and his opponent hesitated. "Take two again, don't be shy," said Phan. He drew one. Again Phan bet and was called.

On the third draw, Phan stood pat, and the LP player took one card. "Don't be checking!" he warned Phan. Phan checked nonetheless. After deliberating for a moment, his opponent checked behind.

Phan showed a 9-7-5-3-2, and the player across the table mucked, showing the king he'd picked up on the last draw. Phan is up to 33,500.

Table Chatter

Play has slowed down a little, although Thor Hansen recently remarked that he thinks this may be the fastest tournament he's ever played. Greg Raymer and Bill Chen are debating the difference between a "super-satellite" and a "mega-satellite."

"I don't know the difference," said Raymer, "but I do know that one time I was playing a super-satellite at Foxwoods and went on a mega-rush."

Rabbit Hunting With the Razor

John "Razor" Phan and his opponent both decided to stay pat on the third draw. Phan bet out and when he was called he announced "9-8." His opponent spread out his hand -- a 9-8-6. Phan showed his: 9-8-7-3-2. Not quite there.

Phan then grabbed the next card off the top of the deck and flipped it over. To his chagrin, it was a four.

Something Tells Me He's Heard That Before

Howard Lederer must have been in a pretty good mood today. He was cracking jokes at Blue #4. "I didn't know Bill Gates' son was playing in this tournament today," he said, jerking a thumb over at Blue #3 in the direction of Ross Hooper. Hooper, a tall, stoop-shouldered, spectacled red-haired man, bears at least a passing resemblance to the Microsoft icon.

Both Hooper and Lederer busted just before the last break.
