Verma Doubles Through Mortensen

We caught up to this hand on the flop. The board read {K-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts}. Rajesh Verma checked from the small blind and Carlos Mortensen, playing from the big blind, bet 25,000. Verma made the call and the dealer laid down the {9-Clubs} on the turn. Verma again checked, and Mortersen again fired 25,000. Verma called. The river brought the {7-Clubs}. Verma checked again and Mortensen bet enough to put Verma all in. Verma made the call and showed {Q-Spades}{Q-Clubs}. Mortensen mucked and slipped to 190,000 while Verma climbed to 360,000.

Todd Brunson Eliminated

Todd Brunson
Todd Brunson was all in with {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. His opponent called with {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. The flop was {9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{5-Hearts}. The turn was the {A-Clubs} and the river was the {2-Hearts}. Brunson busted out.

Todd's sister Pamela was sitting at a nearby table. She ran over and yelled, "Last Brunson standing! Right here!"

Doyle Brunson busted out on Day 1. Although his son Todd is on the rail, his daughter Pamela Brunson is still alive with about 120,000 in chips.

Andrew Grimason Eliminated

We mentioned before how the best hands DO win in poker, but the best hand preflop does not always win.

Such was the case for Team PokerNews player Andrew Grimason, all in preflop with {A-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}. He was called by Adam Weiss holding {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}.

Adam flopped a queen on the {Q-Spades}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds} flop.

But it was running {8-Clubs} {J-Hearts}, making Adam a straight, that sent Andrew to the rail.

Shirley Williams Eliminated

On a flop of {Q-Spades}{J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, Brock Parker bet 45,000. Shirley Williams moved all in for 70,000 more and Parker made the call. The players showed...

Williams: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}
Parker: {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}

Williams did not get the runner-runner help she needed to stay alive and was eliminated from the main event. Parker is now a force with 900,000.
