Ryan Busts, Dawley Re-Enters

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

Moments after Martin Ryan lost his his last ten big blinds when his jack-ten failed to improve against an opponent's Big Slick, WSOP Bracelet winner Jessica Dawley jammed her last 15,000 in with pocket fours, and John Gallaher called with ace-queen.

An ace on the turn spelled doom for Dawley, and she hit the cage to re-enter.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team is at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana in the Louisville area to live report the $1,700 Main Event; however, that is just one of more than a dozen gold ring events that have taken place over the past week. As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

Event #7: $400 Pot-Limit Omaha Rebuy saw 44 runners create a $40,220 prize pool that was paid out to the final seven.

In the end, Justin Geary of Lagrange, Kentucky bested Ross Schitter in heads-up play to win the title for $14,523 and his first gold ring.

"I normally play Omaha cash games, but I was about 70% sure I was going to win when Day 2 began," Geary said after his victory, which also awarded him 50 points towards the 2020 Global Casino Championship.

Esquivel Has It

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 1,600 ante

The big blind checked a {5-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{8-Clubs} board over to Michael Esquivel, who bet 28,500 from the cutoff into a pot of 33,000, leaving himself just 17,500 behind.

The big blind tanked for a few minutes before electing to call, only to muck after Esquivel tabled {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for trip fives.

As such, we thought we’d profile some of the preliminary tournaments and those who struck it big.

For example, in Event #8: $400 No-Limit Hold’em Turbo, 111 entrants created a $36,629 prize pool that was paid out to the top 17 players. Among those to cash but fall shy of making the final table were Zach Hench (10th - $722), Kevin Sherrill (13th - $626), John Rose (16th - $560), and Lisa Potter (17th - $560).

Retiree Robert Gray of Atlanta, Georgia wound up the victor, which was good for $10,296 in prize money and his first gold ring.

"There was no point that I thought I was going to win, not until the last hand." he said.
