PokerStars WCOOP Boot Camp is Underway!

The PokerStars World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP) is online poker's premier tournament series. Every player, from those just cutting their teeth in the poker world to elite-level professionals, dreams of becoming a WCOOP champion, thanks to the prestige of the series and, of course, the massive top prizes offered.

The 2024 WCOOP is scheduled to run from September 8 through October 2, and PokerStars is hosting the inaugural WCOOP Boot Camp. Running August 4-19, the WCOOP Boot Camp is a mini-series featuring 80 numbered events (160 tournaments) with buy-ins ranging from $2.20 to $1,050.

The WCOOP Boot Camp schedule, which includes a $109 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em Main Event with $1,000,000 guaranteed on August 18, is designed to help players prepare for the flagship WCOOP festival and increase their chances of becoming PokerStars champions.

John McGrane raised to 10,000 from early position and Charles Whitehouse, after spending many orbits card dead, moved all in for 28,500. Saigokul Kannan called in the big blind and McGrane also made the call.

Kannan and McGrane then checked it all the way down on a board of 8♦6♦9♠K♣K♠.

Kannan had A♥J♠ and McGrane had A♠Q♣, both players tabling ace high along with the pair of kings on board. Whitehouse showed 10♦10♠ for two pair, tens and kings. He won the pot and tripled up his stack.

Tamer Kamal raised to 10,000 and Govert Metaal moved all in with a relatively short stack. Kamal made the call and players flipped their cards.

The board ran out 4♥9♣3♣9♦10♣. Kamal held with his pocket sixes and sent Metaal to the exit.

Elsewhere, Rehman Kassam and Lukas Gloor both busted from the tournament to leave just 32 players remaining - two left to bust before the money.

Action was on the turn on a board of 9♣6♣2♥K♥ when the chips went in the middle. Darius Demetriou had the shorter stack with A♠K♦ against Christian Choca Archinaut, who had 9♦7♦.

The river came the 2♦ and Archinaut held to double his stack.

A couple of hands later, Peter Murphy also doubled up his short stack.

Action folded around to Joe Hindry, who pushed all in from the small blind. David McConachie looked down at his hand and announced that he had a pair. He called for 19,500 and players flipped their cards.

"Seems like a fair fight," said a neutral player. "Not anymore...", he said as the board ran out 7♥3♣A♣10♠6♥. Hindry paired his ace on the flop and held to win the pot. McConachie had already left the table, out two from the money.

Tedium had set in across the room, the last few levels slow, the time ticking into the early hours of the morning. Nothing seemed to be happening. Until, over on Table 4, a pot had suddenly developed with three players all in.

Christian Choca Archinaut moved all in from under the gun for around ten big blinds. Darius Demetriou flat called in middle position. Then, Jamie Geraghty pushed all in over the top. Demetriou called the shove and three players pushed their chips in and flipped their cards.

Jamie Geraghty: A♥A♠

The board ran out Q♣7♥7♣7♠8♥. All three players made a full house. Geraghty had the best of it with his aces. He won the pot and eliminated both Archinaut and Demetriou.

That means 29 players will return in the money for Day 2.
