Nicolas Godoy began the day as chip leader, which is why we thought it prudent to tell you a little bit about the man and the unique circumstances surrounding his participation in the 2013 PCA.
Godoy, who hails from Corrientes, Argentina, won his seat in the PCA Tenth Anniversary promotion for just $10 on PokerStars. He was fast asleep when a friend rang him up and said he was coming over to play the PokerStars satellite, and whil both friends competed , it was Godoy who won the $16,000 package.
Godoy, who is 19 and starts college in March to study Business Administration, then traveled to the Bahamas with his aunt and uncle as his parents thought he was too young to be on his own. Thus far it's proven a fruitful trip with a potential windfall waiting for the qualifier.
Yury Gulyy raised to 6,000 under the gun only to have Ramiro Petrone move all in for 62,400. The rest of the field got out of the way and Gulyy called with , which was out in front of Petrone's ... at least until the flop came down .
Gulyy looked dejected and Petrone looked on anxiously. The turn was of no consequence, and neither was the river. Petrone did a subdued fist pump in celebration and was pushed the pot.
Action folded to Matt Glantz on the button and he went all in for 35,400. Michael Malm called from the small blind and tabled , well ahead of Glantz's .
However, the board rolled out to give Glantz fours and threes to double up.
We found Noah Schwartz facing a bet of 32,000 from John Gordon on a board of . This was a bet for roughly half of Schwartz's remaining stack and he sat contemplating action for a while.
Schwartz stacked and unstacked chips while talking out the hand to himself under his breath. He finally cut out calling chips and pushed them past the betting line.
Gordon rolled up for sixes full of deuces and Schwartz mucked his cards. Schwartz is now left with just around ten big blinds while Gordon's stack is sitting around 155,000.
Eddy Sabat and Guy Cruickshanks got all the money in preflop after the two raised back and forth. Sabat tabled the and was ahead of the for Cruickshanks.
The flop, turn and river ran out , and Cruickshanks was eliminated. Sabat climbed to 580,000 in chips.
Sabat began Day 3 with 410,200 in chips, so he's already made some nice progress as the field works its way towards the money. He always seems to perform very well at the PCA, finishing 140th in 2009 for $12,500, 30th in 2011 for $66,000 and 40th in 2012 for $41,000. We'll see if he can top those performances this year, but needless to say, Sabat knows what it takes to run deep in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event.
Paul Newey was all in for his last 28,000 or so with , which was racing against the of Mor Ben David. The flop gave Newey a straight draw, and the on the turn gave him outs to counterfeit David's pair, but the bricked on the river.
