The Race to the Money on Day 3 of the EPT 11 Deauville Main Event

Kevin MacPhee is second heading into Day 3 in Deauville
Kevin MacPhee is second heading into Day 3 in Deauville

Two starting days and yesterday's Day 2 have reduced the field of 592 entrants of the €5,300 PokerStars.fr EPT Deauville Main Event to 138 hopefuls and 87 of them will be at least €8,810 richer. That's only a temporary goal though as everybody's eyes are set on the €543,700 first-place payout and opportunity to engrave the own name into the history books of the European Poker Tour.

In about two hours from now on at 12 p.m. local time, the action will resume in level 15 with blinds at 1,500 - 3,000 and a running ante of 400. As of today and until the winner gets crowned on Saturday February 7th, the level duration increases to 90 minutes each. Day 3 is foreseen to play a total of five levels with a 20 minute break after each level and the money will be reached during that time. Bagging and tagging should occur around 20:45 local time (CET), as there is no dinner break.

Leading the field is Ireland's Alex Tikhoniouk 312,600 chips in his maiden participation of an EPT Main Event. Not far behind is a much bigger name of the international poker circuit in former EPT champion and EPT 11 London runner-up Kevin MacPhee (308,300) whereas Robert Schulz completes the podium with 296,900 in chips. It wouldn't be a surprise to see yet another deep run of a German as the first two titles in Season 11 went to the host country of the upcoming World Series of Poker Europe later this year.

Big stacks include such stellar names as PokerStars Team Pro Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier (281,500), Benjamin Pollak (275,000), Nicolau Villa-Lobos (230,600), Simon Ravnsbaek (197,600), PokerStars Team Pro Jan Heitmann (199,000) and Day 2 chip leader Guillaume Darcourt (172,600). Remi Castaignon won this very event in 2013 and is still in with 175,600 chips, EPT London champion Ruben Visser (158,200), Sergio Aido (146,000) and Eugene Katchalov (137,000) will all return with above-average stacks as well.

Cimbolas Doubles With Queens

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

"Yessss. Write down all my emotions," Matas Cimbolas said after he three-bet shoved with {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts} and was called by initial raiser Omar Dahmani with {A-Hearts} {J-Spades}. "That's a good flop for me," Cimbolas said and was pretty pleased when seeing {4-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {6-Clubs} as first three community cards. The {A-Diamonds} on the turn triggered an "oh wow" from the Lithuanian before he had reason again to cheer with the {J-Clubs} river, giving him a flush.

Peters Folds Winning Hand

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Tobias Peters min-raised to 6,000 from the cutoff and Sören Ingwart Vöhrs moved all in from one seat over. Marina Razuvaeva also moved all in out of the small blind and the Dutchman mucked his {6-Diamonds} {6-Spades} for everybody to see. Vöhrs was dominated with {8-Hearts} {10-Hearts} but got there against Razuaeva's {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} on a board of {6-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {9-Spades} {10-Clubs} {4-Spades} board.

Peters would have won the pot and Razuaeva had exactly one ante left, already left the table though and thus her next hand was dead, officially eliminating the Russian.

Pollak Claims Chip Discrepancy

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Benjamin Pollak arrived at the table to find his bag of chips had been wrapped in another bag and when he opened them discovered that he didn’t have as much as he had written on the bag the night before. He thought he had 275,400 but this morning counted 267,000 which represented a shortfall of 8,400 or just under three big blinds.

The floor was called and it was explained that an extra bag is sometimes used if it was felt the first one was not secure enough for some reason. The floor went off to investigate and came back shortly after to say there were no unaccounted for chips and therefore nothing could be done. Without apportioning blame it was suggested that he may have miscounted. This is a rare but not unique occurrence.

MacPhee Thriving Early

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Action folded around to Sweden's Alexander Ivarsson on the button and he put out a raise to 6,000. Kevin MacPhee was in the big blind and he called to see a flop.

The dealer produced a flop of {4-Clubs}{A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} and MacPhee tapped the table. Ivarsson made a continuation bet of 6,000 and MacPhee stuck around. Both players checked after the board paired on the turn with the {4-Hearts} and the {9-Spades} finished the board. MacPhee took this opportunity to drop 11,800 into the middle. Ivarsson let it go and MacPhee dragged in the pot.

Dominik Panka Eliminated

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Dominik Panka
Dominik Panka

Dominik Panka started out short today, and got busy soon enough. He had already shoved twice, but received no calls those times. The third time wasn't going to be the charm, it would spell doom for him.

Panka shoved under the gun. Nobody asked for a count but it looked like about 40,000. Action folded to Pierre Peretti in the cutoff and the Frenchman called without inquiring about the size of the all in. The button and both blinds folded and they put their cards on their backs.

Pierre Peretti: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}
Dominik Panka: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

The coin flip wouldn't end well for Panka: {4-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{J-Clubs}{4-Clubs}. Tomorrow the €10,000 High Roller starts, maybe Panka will try his luck in that tournament. Panka won that event last year, let's see if he can go back to back.

Alilovic Takes It On the River

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Marcin Wydrowski opened the action for 6,500 and Martins Adeniya in the big blind asked for a count before he put out the calling chips. Miroslav Alilovic in the big blind came along too.

It was three-ways to a flop of {8-Spades}{j-Spades}{3-Spades} which was checked around. The {6-Clubs} on the turn saw Wydrowski fire out 7,900 but that didn’t shake off either player and they saw the river card come the {10-Diamonds}. Alilovic now led out for 18,000 and that took down the pot.
