Bottom Set for Solyom

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante

Three players including Dominique Franchi and Nandor Solyom took a flop of {2-Spades}{7-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. Franchi was first to act and he cut out a bet of 1,275. The second player to act flatted, putting action on Solyom on the button. Solyom came over the top with a raise to 3,250 only to have Franchi three-bet the action to 8,275. The next player quickly folded and Solyom called to see a turn.

The turn was the {q-Hearts} and Franchi slowed with a check. Solyom knocked the table back, allowing the {4-Clubs} to finish the board. Franchi moved out one final bet of 8,700 and Solyom flicked out a single chip, signifying a call.

Franchi tabled {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades} for a turned pair of queens, but it was of no use against Solyom's {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for bottom set of deuces. Solyom pulled in the sizable pot and now has about 75,000 in his stack.

Simpson Calls At Wiggs House

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante
Ian Simpson & Anton Wigg in happier times
Ian Simpson & Anton Wigg in happier times

Anton Wigg had an empty seat on his right and we the Swede what had happened. Wigg admitted that he was the one busting his former neighbor, and he was kind enough to fill us in on the details as well.

Simpson opened to 650 and with {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} Wigg made it 1,700 right behind him. Simpson made the call and check called 1,400 on {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}. Simpson, who won the Irish Open in 2013 after having finished 4th the year before in the same event, check called another 2,600 on an {A-Spades} turn.

The river brought in the flush with the {4-Hearts} and Simpson checked again. Anton Wigg had bet 20,000 which was more than Ian Simpson had behind.

Simpson gave it some thought but in the end, with a shrug of his shoulders, he pushed his remaining stack forward to call. Wigg immediately rolled over his {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds} for a full house and Simpson said, “Nice playing with you.” before mucking his cards and heading for the door.

Andrade Sets Up Barouk

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante

Andre Andrade was all in on the turn of a board reading {6-Spades}{8-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}. The decision was on Philippe Barouk and it would cost him 6,650 to make the call, a substantial part of his remaining stack.

Call he did though, and wished he hadn’t, as Andrade tabled his {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and was crushing the {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} of Barouk. The river {9-Spades} finished the deal.

Danchev Gets Paid

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante
Dimitar Danchev
Dimitar Danchev

The board read {6-Clubs}{a-Spades}{4-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and Dimitar Danchev had bet 10,000.

Ognyan Dimov mulled it over for a while. The bet was around three-quarters pot and represented around a third of Dimov’s remaining stack. After all the factors had been weighed up he made the call.

The missing element of the puzzle was revealed to him and Danchev turned over {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs} for a full house to leave a stunned Dimov to hand over the chips.

Rodriguez Eliminates Auer

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante

We saw German player Robert Auer move away from the table, and with no chips at his former spot at the table, we got the message quite clear that he wasn't going for a smoking break.

Javier Rodriguez told us that a player had opened to 700 and that Auer had made the call. Rodriguez squeezed to 2,300 and the initial raiser folded. Auer now shoved all in for about 7,000 and Rodriguez made the call holding {A-}{K-}.

Auer had {A-}{J-} and wouldn't improve on a board of {K-Clubs}{Q-}{7-}{Q-}{5-}.

Balazuc Doubles Through Leathem

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante

We arrived in time to find Anton Wigg, Andrew Leathem, and David Balazuc looking down at a board of {7-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}. Wigg had first action and he led out into the middle for 3,800. Leathem called and action fell over to Balazuc in late position. He announced a raise all in for his last 12,350 total.

Wigg went into the tank for right around 90 seconds before ultimately opting to kick his cards into the muck. Suddenly the action was back on Leathem and after a moment of pondering he flung out calling chips.

Leathem: {J-Spades}{7-Spades}
Balazuc: {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Balazuc was in a dominating position with his flopped full house of tens full of sevens. The river completed the board with the {K-Clubs} and Balazuc scored the double. His stack now sits around 47,000 while Leathem has dropped to around 31,000.

Nitsche's Full House No Good

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante
Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

On a board of {J-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{J-Clubs} there was already 6,425 in the pot and Gilles Huet from France checked from the big blind. Nitsche bet 4,200 from the cutoff and Huet raised to 9,500. Nitsche called.

The {3-Diamonds} on the river made Huet bet out 6,500 with 4,925 behind. Nitsche announced all in and Huet almost instantly called.

Nitsche showed {J-Hearts}{5-Hearts} but would soon land that hand in the muck as Huet tabled {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}.

Vamplew Clinging On

Level 5 : 150/300, 50 ante

Omar Dahmani checked it over to David Vamplew on the river of a board reading {10-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}{q-Diamonds}.

Vamplew bet 4,400 which was close to pot and left him just over 3,000 behind. Dahmani took a minute to think about it, eventually asking Vamplew to raise his arms so he could clearly see his remaining stack. A few more moments though and Dahmani made the call.

Vamplew revealed his turned set holding {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. Could this be the hand that he needed to regain some momentum after a difficult few hours? The answer was no as Dahmani turned over his {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} rivered straight.

Vamplew was crippled and open shoved the next two hands without picking up any callers. The third time it was folded to him he mucked but it will take a mighty effort to survive just Day 1a from here.
