Rainer Kempe Doubles Up

Level 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Julian Thomas raised to 20,000 on the button. Rainer Kempe shoved 184,000 all in from the small blind. Ye Zhang reshoved all in from the big blind, and Thomas folded.

Rainer Kempe: {K-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
Ye Zhang: {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}

Kempe was at risk and behind, but took a substantial lead when the flop came {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Neither the {7-Diamonds} turn nor {J-Clubs} river helped Zhang turn it back around, and Kempe doubled up.

Petrangelo Doubles Through Dvoress

Level 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

On the heads-up flop of {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, Daniel Dvoress bet 36,000 out of the small blind and Nick Petrangelo called from the button. The {K-Hearts} fell on the turn and Dvoress continued with another bet worth 81,000, Petrangelo called.

The {K-Clubs} river then paired the board and Dvoress glanced over at the stack of his opponent, then bet more than 200,000 to give Petrangelo all but two choices: All in or fold. Petrangelo quickly opted for the former and Dvoress flipped over {J-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, which ended up second best as Petrangelo had turned the straight with {Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades} and doubled for 171,000.

Connor Drinan Cracks Jason Mercier's Kings to Double Up

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Connor Drinan

The cards were on their backs between Jason Mercier and Connor Drinan. Mercier enjoyed a sterling summer and was looking to continue his run into the new EPT season.

In this hand Mercier was ahead with {k-Hearts}{k-Spades} against Drinan's {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. The flop of {7-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{q-Spades} looked safe for the five-time bracelet winner and former EPT Sanremo Champion. However, the {8-Spades} on the turn gave Drinan an open-ended straight draw. The river was the {j-Hearts} and Drinan doubled up.

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Mateos called and the {3-Clubs} turn went check, check. On the {5-Diamonds} river, Mateos bet 400,000 and Thorel folded.

One hand later, Mike McDonald raised to 23,000 from the hijack and Thorel called on the button, Stanley Choi called in the big blind. Manuchehr Khangah Puts the Pressure on Petrangelo

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Manuchehr Ahadpur Khangah
Manuchehr Ahadpur Khangah

Nick Petrangelo raised to 25,000 from early position and Manuchehr Khangah called from late position.

The flop of {9-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Spades} was checked by both players. On the turn Petrangelo check-called a bet of 55,000 when the {8-Clubs} was dealt. The {7-Spades} on the river meant that there was a five card straight on the board, and again Petrangelo checked to Khangah who quickly announced all in.

With a shake of his head, and a shrug of his shoulders, Petrangelo quickly folded and Khangah raked in his chips and his now approaching nearly double starting stack midway through Day 2.

Loosli Sees Through Goeller

Level 11 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante

Defending champ Sylvain Loosli opened to 25,000 under the gun and Andreas Goeller defended his big blind. Both players checked the {A-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Hearts} flop. Goeller checked the {Q-Hearts} on the turn, Loosli bet 28,000, and Goeller called.

On the {6-Clubs} river, Goeller quickly led out with 50,000. Loosli pondered for a short while, then called. Goeller showed {K-Spades}{3-Hearts} for king high, and Loosli scooped it up with {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades} for queens and sixes.
