Only Six Tables Remain

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

The seat open have occurred at a far faster speed as of recently and yet another table broke to reduce the field to its last 54 participants for Flight 2. Another three levels are scheduled and the players will go on their last break at the end of this level.

Laidlaw and Le Eliminated

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Nam Le
Nam Le

The seats of Daniel Laidlaw and Nam Le over on table one are vacated. Laidlaw was already gone when Le defended his big blind to a 3,000-raise by Matthew Wayne, another player also came along. On the flop {Q-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, all three players checked before Le then check-raised all in on the {6-Spades} turn.

Wayne had fired a delayed continuation bet worth 5,800 and called it off with the {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}. Le flipped over {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and the cruel {Q-Spades} appeared on the river. Just after the hand, Wayne told his friends that he "knew the guy had a flush, but could not fold anymore" - sometimes poker does provide happy ends though.

Plenty of Chips

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Louis Salter had previously won a flip with {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds} against {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} to double up and then pretty much doubled that stack before arriving at the table of his brother Jack. That table just broke now as well and Louis found a new home next to Panayotis Flourentzou, the current chip leader. Further stacked players include Michael Kanaan and Sam Higgs.

Riech Reaches Heaps

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Ferenc Riech raised to 2,600 and was called by the player from one seat over. On the heads-up flop of {6-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}, the German check-called a bet of 6,000 by his table neighbor and then both players checked the {10-Diamonds} on the turn. On the {4-Hearts} river, Riech led for tiny 4,500 and was paid off to reveal {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} as winning hand.

Give it to the Don

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Najeem Ajez
Najeem Ajez

Najeem Ajez has been eliminated in a three-way all in with pocket threes when another three was among the first three community cards. Three!!!

The full betting action is unknown, but the {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} of Ajez ended up being the third-best hand preflop in a showdown against pocket kings and the {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} of Don Mishra.

The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{3-Spades}{7-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{J-Spades} and the three aces of Mishra won the big pot.

Furthermore, only one out of three players registered is left with 58 out of 172 remaining and bagging and tagging will take place after three in the morning.

Dionisopoulos Leads the Pack

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante
George Dionisopolous
George Dionisopolous

After a raise to 2,000 from under the gun by George Dionisopolous, two players called and the flop came {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{4-}. The action was checked around to the first cold-caller and he bet 4,000. Only Dionisopoulos called and did so again for 8,000 on the {2-} turn. The {J-Hearts} river completed the board and a possible flush draw to see Dionisopoulos move all in.

His opponent snap-called with {A-}{J-} only to get shown pocket aces!

Beckhaus busts to Boxell

Level 8 : 400/800, 100 ante

James Obst is nowhere to be found anymore and Australian Poker Hall of Famer Leo Boxell avoided the same in a battle of the short stacks against Melanie Beckhaus. Boxell priced himself in and then had to call the shove of Beckhaus with {Q-Spades}{10-Hearts}. Beckhaus held {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}, but lady luck was smiling on her opponent with a board of {2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}.
