Day 1 Flight 2 of the 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship Event #1 $1,150 No-Limit Hold'em drew a total of 172 players Thursday, bringing the total up to 332, and putting the event well on the path to surpassing its $1 million prize pool guarantee with two starting flights still to come.

Two-time European Poker Tour Main Event finalist Xuan Liu and 2014 WSOP APAC Main Event champion Scott Davies both took their second shot at the event to no avail.

2013 World Series of Poker Europe Ladies Event bracelet winner Jackie Glazier took her first kick at the can. However, the Aussie was felted early and was soon joined by 2012 WSOP November Niner Jacob Balsiger and Australian Poker Hall of Fame member Leo Boxell on the rail.

A Writer and Producer on hit American TV shows Weeds and Entourage, Matt Salsberg, and 2015 WSOP November Niner Federico Butteroni both built contending stacks into the late levels. However, Butteroni got short and busted in the last ten minutes of play while Salsberg slowed down and bagged short.

By the time twelve 40-minute levels were through just 26 players remained with Ferenc Riech leading the pack. The German built a big stack midway through the day and used it to put a ton of pressure on his opponents through the late levels, ascending into the chip lead as the night wore on.

This group and the 26 survivors from Flight 1 will battle it out for a seat at the nine-handed final at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday with survivors from the next two flights set for Friday and Saturday also joining them.

As a repechage event, players eliminated from previous flights may re-enter any of the remaining flights.

While the event continues with the third of four starting flights set for 12:10 p.m. local time Friday, PokerNews' live coverage will shift to the final table of Event #2 $2,500 H.O.R.S.E. beginning at 1 p.m. Friday.

Coverage of Event #1 will resume with the fourth and final flight set for 12:10 p.m. local time Saturday.

Not Bad, Mister Blatt

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Just before bagging and tagging, Dean Blatt knocked out his table neighbor with {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs} versus {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. The flop {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{K-Diamonds} shut down all hopes of a miracle comeback and it was all over after the {3-Clubs} turn. A meaningless {2-Hearts} on the river reduced the field to 26 players, who will now get to bag and tag shortly.

Quick Mayhem at the End

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Three players busted in quick succession to reduce the field to 27 players. Benefiting from that was Oliver Gill, who sent a player to the rail that wanted to bust in order to play golf on Sunday. Gill even happened to pick up a decent hand in {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts} while the opponent committed his 35,000 with {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{4-Spades}. One hand later, a short stack had a sweat for three big blinds with {6-Clubs}{8-Clubs} versus {2-Spades}{2-Diamonds} but found no help on the {K-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} board.

Riech can Fold Too; Last Three Hands

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Oliver Gill has been more than doubling his short stack recently and just now acted a little surprised when a short stack shoved for less than six big blinds from the small blind. Chip leader Ferenc Riech found the fold button and the short stack survived.

Shortly after, the clock was stopped and the last three hands were announced.

Butteroni Bested

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Federico Butteroni
Federico Butteroni

Daniel Neilson opened to 4,500 and Federico Butteroni tossed his last 20,000 in behind.

It folded back to Neilson and he made the call with the {a-Spades}{10-Spades}.

Butteroni's tournament life was riding on the {k-Hearts}{5-Clubs} and he actually took the lead on the {5-Spades}{6-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} flop. The {7-Clubs} turn kept Butteroni ahead, but the cruel {a-Diamonds} river did him in just before the night is done.

Bread and Butter(oni)

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Daniel Neilson grabbed half of the stack of table neighbor Federico Butteroni and then tried to knock out the Italian. However, when they turned over the cards, the whole table sighed. Neilson had {A-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Butteroni the equally strong {A-Spades}{7-Hearts}. The board {Q-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} was not significant at all.

Riech Finishes off Kanaan

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Michael Kanaan
Michael Kanaan

After both had clashed in a previous big hand, Ferench Riech and Michael Kanaan bashed heads once again. This time there was an all in showdown with Riech four-bet shoving when holding pocket threes. Kanaan called it off with {A-}{10-} and picked up an additional straight draw on the turn of a jack-high board.

However, the river was a second deuce and that sent the chips to Riech, who seems poised to be the overnight and overall chip leader.

Not the final Gong for Ong

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Alexandre Thomas defended his big blind against a raise of Daniel Neilson, but then immediately gave up when the flop came {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. The same table also saw Adrian Ong at risk for less than 10,000 chips with the {5-Spades}{5-Hearts} and he flipped against {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. The board ran out {7-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and Ong sat back down.
