John Thomson Eliminated in 4th Place ($61,000 AUD)

After Scott Wilson had folded, John Thomson moved all in from the button for his last 450,000 or so. Brendon Rubie then moved all in over the top, forcing Rob Angood to fold the big blind.

Showdown
Thomson: {J-Spades}{10-Hearts}
Rubie: {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}

Thomson's solid image allowed him to coast deeper and deeper into the money, but his run came to an end in fourth place as the board ran out {K-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Spades}. "Thanks guys," Thomson said as he shook hands with the remaining three players. "I've had a lot of fun."

Indeed, Thomson wore a big smile on his face and was gracious in defeat. He will take home $61,000 AUD for his performance.

Rubie Doubles Huge Through Angood

In the last hand before the break, we had a monster pot develop, the largest of the tournament so far. It happened when action folded to Brendon Rubie in the small blind and he bumped it up to 80,000, which Rob Angood three-bet to 211,000 from the big. Rubie took a few moments before four-betting 211,000 more, Angood moved all in, and Rubie snap-called.

Showdown
Rubie: {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}
Angood: {A-Spades}{9-Diamonds}

A few minutes before this hand developed, Angood had told Rubie that he thought they'd be playing a big hand soon, and he wasn't kidding. Unfortunately for him, he got his money in at the worst possible time. The {J-Spades}{10-Spades}{3-Clubs} flop gave Angood a few runner-runner possibilities, but the {10-Diamonds} turn tore them away and left him drawing dead.

The {2-Clubs} was put out on the river for good measure as Rubie doubled to 4.4 million while Angood was left with 950,000.

Aces for Angood

Level 23 : 20,000/40,000, 4,000 ante

Scott Wilson opened for 80,000 under the gun and Brendon Rubie flatted from the small blind. Rob Angood then decided to exercise his option in the big blind with a three-bet to 296,000. Both his opponents gave it some thought, but ultimately laid down their hands. Good thing they did too, as Angood rolled over {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}!

Tam Truong Eliminated in 5th Place ($49,000 AUD)

Action folded to a short-stacked Tam Truong on the button and he shoved for 368,000, which Rob Angood called from the small blind.

Showdown
Angood: {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Truong: {A-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}

Truong was a slight favorite preflop, but the {4-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop gave Angood a flush draw to go with his overs. The {3-Clubs} paired Truong, though it changed little, and he needed to dodge a king, queen, or a non-three spade on the river. Unfortunately for the Day 1a chip leader, the {Q-Clubs} spiked on the river to give Angood the winner. Truong was eliminated in fifth place and will take home $49,000 for his efforts.

Manny Stavropoulos Eliminated in 6th Place ($39,000 AUD)

Action folded to Rob Angood on the button and he raised to 81,000. Scott Wilson folded the small blind, and Manny Stavropoulos pushed back with an all-in shove for around 370,000. Angood made a quick call and Stavropoulos discovered the bad news.

Showdown
Stavropoulos: {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}
Angood: {6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}

It was about as bad as could be for Stavropoulos, and he was looking for some major help. The {2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Spades} flop failed to deliver, and while the {5-Diamonds} turn was close to a four, it wasn't what Stavropoulos needed. The {A-Diamonds} river completed the board and put an end to Stavropoulos's tournament in sixth place.

Thomson Takes It From Rubie

The flop showed {k-Spades}{8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and Brendon Rubie held {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}. John Thomson was all in holding {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and it was looking bleak for Thomson. The {a-Spades} on the turn was a miracle putting Thomson back in front and when the river bricked it was all good for Thomson who took down the double-up.
