The second PCA resulted in 724 players in the Main Event again at Atlantis Resort and Casino with PokerStars qualifier Steve Paul-Ambrose taking the win for $1,388,600. This was the first PCA prize over $1 million.

PokerStars launched the first battleship poker tournament, where players competed heads up online and played live on laptop computers back-to-back.

PokerStars also began rebroadcasting the final table of the Sunday tournament with some commentary by the winner. After some changing terms and conditions, PokerStars began exposing all hole cards.

In January, PokerStars opened the PokerStars VIP Club. By February, 100,000 players were on the site at the same time.

The birth of the Sunday Million came in March when the weekly $215 no limit hold’em tournament was rebranded “The Sunday Million” with a $1 million guarantee.

Jeff Williams would go on this month to win the champion title for the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo, taking home €900,000. Not bad for a 19-year-old college student from the United States.
