PokerStars held the second PCA at the Atlantis Resort and Casino in the Bahamas, dealing the first legal hand of live poker in the Bahamas in a $10/$20 limit hold’em game. John Gale won the Main Event for $890,600.
With the tsunami in the Indian Ocean hitting Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India and Thailand the hardest in December of 2004, PokerStars ran dummy tournaments that players could register for with the funds going to a charity pool.
Players raised $187,000 and PokerStars matched it, sending $400,000 to the IFRC.
In February 2005, PokerStars would host the first weekly tournament to get a prize pool of over $500,000. The first-place prize was $102,240.
