Michael Duek's Main Event Story

Michael Duek is something of an unknown quantity at the 2022 WSOP Main Event final table, something that could play to his advantage. Until this summer's World Series of Poker, Duek had four cashes, from late 2017 to early 2021, recorded on his Hendon Mob profile. The largest of those was worth $34,929.

Duek decided to enter the $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller at the 2022 WSOP where he finished 31st for a $44,253. Duek then finished in the money in a $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event and in the $5,000 Mixed No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha tournament, before jumping into the $10,000 WSOP Main Event.

Will coming from a PLO background hinder Duek's chances of becoming the 2022 WSOP Main Event champion?

Duek’ Run to the Final Table

Duek will be used to swingy sessions in his usual game of PLO. He endured a rollercoaster ride on his way to the Main Event's final ten. Day 1d have gone better because Duek bagged up 61,500 chips, which paced him 1,934th of the 3,295 survivors. Day 2d went fantastically well for the finalists because he turned his 61,500 starting stack into 509,000, which placed Duek in the top 25 places.

Day 3 turned into something of a grind but Duek still added another 200,000 or so chips to his stack. More progress was made on Day 4 but Duek actually finished Day 5 with fewer chips than when he bag, and found himself languishing in 103rd place with 123 players remaining.

Go big or go home must have been Duek's motto on Day 6 because he went from 1,625,000 chips to a colossal 22,575,000. A huge hand propelled Duek towards the chip counts' summit. During the 100,000/150,000/150,000a level, Cedricc Trevino opened to 375,000, Duek three-bet to 1,050,000 and called when Trevino four-bet to 2,500,000. Trevino then shoved for 4,000,000 on the 626 flop and Duek called. Duek flipped over JJ and was crushed by Trevino's KK. However, the J turn put the ball firmly in Duek's court, and the 7 river busted Trevino.

Duek clashed with Australia's Adrian Attenborough several times on Day 7, but it was a hand with Espen Jorstad that was a key battle. Jorstad opened to 3,500,000 in the small blind with AQ and Duek called in the big blind with AJ. Jorstad bet 1,500,000 n the KK9 flop, and Duek called. Both players checked the 8 turn, before Jorstad bet8,000,000 on the A river. Duek quickly called and saw the bad news. That hand put Duek down to 31,700,000 and Jorstad over 100 million.

Duek clawed some of his losses back and finished Day 7 with 49,775,000 chips, or 41 big blinds.
