Daniel Negreanu to Host this Weekend's CSOP “Raise It Up” Charity Event
On Saturday, November 23, the Charity Series of Poker (CSOP) will join forces with Mickie’s Miracles and Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition to host the Raise It Up for Pediatric Epilepsy Gala & Poker Tournament.
The $500 buy-in tournament, which will run from 5-11 p.m. at the Fashion Island Hotel in Newport Beach, California, and will be hosted by Daniel Negreanu. The winner will then play against “Kid Poker” for a chance to win a seat at the 2020 World Series of Poker Main Event.
“Daniel is the most popular person in poker for a reason. His passion and enthusiasm for poker, charity, and life, in general, are second to none. In fact, it's a big part of why I started the CSOP to begin with,” CSOP founder Matt Stout told PokerNews. “Having him serve on our Board of Directors as well as play and emcee our events can make the difference between tens of thousands being raised and hundreds of thousands being raised, as evidenced by the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital event he founded that raised $350k this past March.”
All proceeds for the “Raise It Up” event will benefit Mickie’s Miracles, CHOC Children’s Foundation, and CHOC Children’s Neuroscience Center.
Raising Money for a Good Cause
In addition to a poker tournament – which will award cash bonuses for both the chip leader and player with the most rebuys at the end of registration – there will be a culinary extravaganza custom-designed by Fashion Island Hotel’s premier chefs, a first-class silent and live auction, and music to be enjoyed.
With over 45,000 children diagnosed with epilepsy every year and 50,000 people dying from epilepsy each year in the United States alone, the event will raise awareness about the urgent need to get children the immediate care.
"Being a new father has made me empathize with families impacted by diseases like epilepsy more than ever."
“More people live with epilepsy than autism, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Cerebral Palsy combined — yet treatment and funding research for it is severely lagging,” said Kristie Griess, CEO & Visionary Founder of Mickie’s Miracles. “As a mom who saw her newborn daughter go from severely seizing and doctors saying she wouldn’t walk or talk to a vibrant eight-year-old that has been seizure-free for seven years and counting, I know we can win this fight.”
Stout echoed those sentiments to PokerNews: “Everybody tends to have a soft spot where sick children are involved, but being a new father has made me empathize with families impacted by diseases like epilepsy more than ever. I can't imagine watching helplessly as my child goes through dozens or even hundreds of seizures per day. I'm proud to work with Mickie's Miracles and help provide relief and support to families enduring this struggle.”
