For the fifth year in a row, Daniel Negreanu used his influence to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Earlier this month, he joined forces with the Charity Series of Poker (CSOP) for the first time ever to hold the “St. Jude Against All Odds” charity poker tournament at Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa in Las Vegas.
The event, which featured a silent auction and $500 buy-in poker tournament, raised more than $330,000 to benefit children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Event Highlights
Not only was Negreanu in attendance, he was joined by the likes of CSOP founder Matt Stout, stand-up comedian Clayton Fletcher, winner of Ink Masters Season 3 Joey Hamilton of Revolt Tattoos, NFL Hall of Famer Jonathan Ogden, “Rockstar of the Art World” Michael Godard, in-arena host for the Vegas Golden Knights Mark Shunock, and Poker Hall of Famer Todd Brunson.
Also in attendance were contest winners Donna Lawton and Jesse Fullen, who won seats via giveaways on PokerNews’ Top Pair Home Game Poker Podcast and LFG Podcast respectively. Both spoke about their experiences in the event, which you can listen to here and here.
The tournament offered up a seat into the 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event, and that went to Kim Stone, a St. Jude committee member and volunteer for the Against All Odds charity.
A Great Cause
All funds support St. Jude Children’s Hospital, which helps ensure families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live through cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
Sponsors for the “St. Jude Against All Odds” include Poker Central, Red Rock Casino Resort, Shift4Payments, Freedom Dream Team, Inc., The Revelution, and Draken International.
The CSOP will return to Red Rock Casino May 11 for their next charity event, which will benefit VGK Sled Hockey and Faith Lutheran Hockey. The charity tournament costs $300 to enter with $100 rebuys and add-ons. Those wishing to attend just the reception can do so for a $100 donation.
