2018 WSOP Player of the Year: Elio Fox Leading, John Hennigan Second
The 2018 World Series of Poker is nearing the end of its third week, and just as was the case in our previous two weekly updates of the 2018 WSOP Player of the Year race, Elio Fox remains the frontrunner thanks largely to his victory in Event #2: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Super Turbo Bounty and second-place finish in Event #5: $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller.
Fox added a third cash by finishing just inside the top 100 in Event #21: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em MILLIONAIRE MAKER, enabling him to collect a few more POY points. Here's how the 2018 WSOP POY Top 10 looks as of this morning, Tuesday, June 19:

John Hennigan jumped into the Top 10 this week, moving all of the way up to second on the leaderboard after earning his fifth career WSOP bracelet in Event #27: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. That was Hennigan's fourth cash of the series, all of which have been relatively deep runs including two seventh-place finishes.
With five cashes and including a win in Event #3: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout, Joe Cada remained in third position on the POY list this week. Meanwhile Paul Volpe is currently in fourth thanks to four cashes including a victory in Event #9: $10,000 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship.
Ryan Bambrick also joined the Top 10 this week, moving into fifth position after winning Event #30: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, his fourth cash of the summer.
The bottom half of the current Top 10 is also occupied by five more bracelet winners. New to the list this week is Brian Rast who picked up his fourth career WSOP bracelet after winning Event #23: $10,000 2-7 Single Draw Championship, pushing him up to seventh on the list. Another new member of the Top 10 is Arne Kern. Kern's triumph in the MILLIONAIRE MAKER where he topped a 7,361-entry field to win the bracelet and a $1,173,223 first prize has helped him move up into eighth.
Looking just outside the current Top 10, Shaun Deeb has eight cashes already this year and is currently in 11th place, making him the highest-ranked player in the POY race currently without a bracelet. Right now Deeb is just ahead of Craig Varnell (12th), Michael Addamo (13th), Adam Friedman (14th), and John Racener (15th).
About the 2018 WSOP Player of the Year
The 2018 WSOP POY race includes events from this summer's WSOP in Las Vegas as well as from the 2018 World Series of Poker Europe series in Rozvadov, Czech Republic later this year (Oct. 11-Nov. 2). Finishes in 72 of the 78 bracelet events at the 2018 WSOP will count toward the POY, with the following six events excluded:
- Event #1: $565 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'em
- Event #32: $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em
- Event #36: Super Seniors No-Limit Hold'em
- Event #55: $1,000 Tag Team No-Limit Hold'em
- Event #57: $1,000/$10,000 Ladies Event
- Event #78: $1,000,000 Big One for One Drop
