PokerStars Announces EPT Open Sochi, Awards Five Platinum Passes
PokerStars has announced the EPT Open Sochi, a new addition to the European Poker Tour on a lower prize point. The event takes place between Sept. 21-29 in Sochi, Russia and the winner of the EPT Open Sochi Main Event will not only bag themselves a lot of cash for their victory, they’ll also walk away with a $30,000 Platinum Pass for the PokerStars Players Championship in early 2019.
PokerStars is still finalizing the schedule for EPT Open Sochi, but it has confirmed the dates for both the Main Event and High Roller.
EPT Open Sochi Main Event runs from Sept. 25-29 and has a buy-in of RUB 132,000 (approx. $2,125) and has a guaranteed prize pool of RUB 60,000,000 (approx. $1 million) while the EPT Open Sochi High Roller takes place between Sept. 28-29 and commands a RUB 258,000 buy-in (approx. $4,150). PokerStars promises that one of five Platinum Passes on offer throughout the EPT Open Sochi festival will be awarded to the Main Event’s champion.
Mikhail Shalamov: "It’s great to see the EPT returning to Sochi but with a slight twist as the EPT Open Sochi."
It will be the second time the European Poker Tour visits Sochi in 2018, the regular EPT stop took place March 20-29. Arsenii Karmatckii took down the event, banking RUB 27,300,000 ($478,451) after defeating a final table consisting of solely Russian players and one player from Armenia.
PokerStars Players Championship
Each Platinum Pass is worth $30,000 and awards its winner a seat in the $25,000 PokerStars Players Championship (PSPC) event in The Bahamas, accommodation at the luxurious Atlantis Resort, plus $2,000 towards food and travel costs. PokerStars believes the PSPC will be the biggest high roller poker tournament it has ever run.
Players who head to Sochi have the chance to meet up with PokerStars Ambassadors, receive free merchandise, and enjoy everything the luxury Sochi Casino & Resort has to offer. The festival kicks off just before the Sochi Autodrom, one of the most popular forms of motor racing, so if that’s your thing you have the perfect excuse to stay in Russia.
Satellites to the EPT Open Sochi are available now online at PokerStars. There are a variety of different buy-ins that start as low as $22. These satellites award Main Event packages worth $3,100, which includes a Main Event buy-in plus expenses and accommodation.
PokerStars Ambassador Mikhail Shalamov said of the EPT Open Sochi festival, “It’s great to see the EPT returning to Sochi but with a slight twist as the EPT Open Sochi. The smaller Main Event buy-in this time around will make it a brilliant opportunity for players of all bankrolls to play on home soil and give Russian players the opportunity to take to the felt against some of the best players from around the world. At the EPT event earlier this year there were more than 1,300 players from 61 different countries!”
