Shortly after TonyBet had their first live presence in Canada with the Winter Festival, they’re looking to keep the momentum going with a TonyBet-sponsored mini-series at Playground Poker Club called the TonyBet Power Weekend.

Canada’s premier poker destination just outside of Montreal, Quebec, was the venue where Jiachen Gong won the $1,100 TonyBet Winter Festival Main Event for $100,000 just a few weeks ago. Now TonyBet is back for the second time in Canada for a series running March 9-14.

There are six tournaments on the quick six-day schedule and the emphasis has clearly been put on providing a fun series; the buy-ins are low and the game types are varied. The headlining event is a $150 reentry tournament with four Day 1s with a huge guarantee of $100,000 despite the tiny buy-in.

Also on the schedule is a $110 mix-max tournament where the number of players per table decreases as the tournament progresses. There will also be a $220 classic freezeout tournament, a $300 team event, a $110 no-limit hold’em pineapple tournament, and a $135 six-max bounty event. Many of these are game formats that are hard to find at any live venue, especially at such a low price.

During the recent TonyBet Winter Festival, there were rumours of open-face Chinese (OFC) poker being introduced for the first time in a Canadian poker room. OFC is the mainstay of TonyBet Poker, though they’ve now branched out into rake-free six-max hold’em and pot-limit Omaha. While pineapple poker makes an appearance on the schedule, this time around, it is of the Texas hold’em variety. OFC hasn’t come to Playground yet, but a TonyBet spokesman suggests it is coming soon.

With all of the fun-oriented events running through the TonyBet Power Weekend, there is also some excitement ramping up on the cash-game tables where Playground’s Bad Beat Jackpot is currently more than $590.000.

Also coming up quickly is TonyBet’s most ambitious online poker series. The €100,000 TonyBet Poker Glory Series kicks off on February 28 and runs until March 6 with 25 tournaments ranging in price from €5 to €500. Download the TonyBet poker client to check out that series.
