MSPT Running Aces $200,000 Guarantee $1,100 Buy-In Main Event Less Than a Week Away
The Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) continues this week at Running Aces Harness Park in Columbus, Minnesota with a slew of $250 qualifiers and bonus events. Then, from September 19-21, the stop will culminate with a $200,000 guarantee $1,100 buy-in Main Event.
“Running Aces has been a staple on the MSPT schedule dating back to Season 1, and every time we go back it seems to get bigger and better,” said MSPT owner and operator Bryan Mileski. “This is the sixth time the MSPT will host a tournament on the property and the second time in Season 5. Dozens of players as well as members of the MSPT Pro Team have confirmed their attendance, so it’s going to be a great time.”
Back in February, Mark Sandness defeated MSPT Team Pro Blake Bohn in heads-up play to win the first MSPT Running Aces event of Season 5, a tournament that attracted 353 entries. Sandness earned $90,913 in prize money. That tournament also marked PokerNews’ Live Reporting debut on the MSPT, and of course we'll be there for the encore. “Working with Bryan and the MSPT brand has been something great to watch grow,” Running Aces Marketing Director Aaron Bedessem previously told PokerNews in an interview. “We have worked well with the brand to help build it from only a few stops in Minnesota to a Midwest brand that has a great following. The growth MSPT has been able to accomplish has been great in drawing in more regional players to our poker room.”

Plenty of notables are expected to make the trip to Running Aces including Allen “Chainsaw” Kessler; Big One for One Drop participant John Morgan; MSPT regular Adam Lamphere; and Taylor Tollefson, who is tied for third all time with eight career MSPT cashes, four of which have come in Season 5.
Another player confirmed to participate is Jason Zarlenga, who topped a field of 487 entrants to win the MSPT Potawatomi last weekend. That win, which earned him $120,164 in prize money, marked his second MSPT title after winning the FireKeepers stop earlier this season. He joins Dan Sun and Matt Kirby as the only three players to win multiple MSPT titles, but Zarlenga set himself apart as the win also made him the all-time MSPT money winner with $223,970.
Zarlenga aslo moved into third on the MSPT Season 5 Player of the Year Leaderboard behind Kou Vang and Michael Deis, who’ve been cashing machines this season. Here’s a look at the leaderboard heading into Running Aces:
