2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open Begins Today!
The 2014 Borgata Winter Poker Open kicks off Tuesday at the luxurious Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J. The popular annual series will run from Jan. 14 through 31, and the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on the tournament floor to bring you live coverage for all 23 events on the schedule!
Beginning at 10 a.m. ET today is Day 1a of Event #1, a $560 Big Stack No-Limit Hold'em tournament which boasts a massive $2 million guaranteed prize pool. Last year's version of this event attracted 3,871 entries, generating a prize pool of $1,935,500. The eventual winner was Joe Stiers who turned his $560 entry into $318,104.
This year's festival will include eight tournaments tagged with a guaranteed prize pool of at least $100,000. The series will be highlighted by the World Poker Tour Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship from Jan. 26-31. The tournament features three starting flights and a $3 million guaranteed prize pool.
Last year, Andy Hwang took down the 2013 World Poker Tour Borgata Winter Open Championship for $730,053. Hwang outlasted a field of 1,042 including a final table that featured eventual WPT Player of the Year Matt Salsberg (sixth place).
