‘Ante Up For Africa’ Event to Highlight PokerStars EPT Grand Final Week

The efforts by humanitarian group Ante Up for Africa to continue generating relief for the war-torn Darfur region of Sudan in Africa have received a boost with PokerStars’ announcement of a significant poker fundraiser on behalf of the cause. Stars has announced the first-ever Ante Up For Africa Europe Celebrity Charity poker tournament, to be held during the European Poker Tour (EPT) Grand Final week near the end of April.

The ongoing assistance coordinated through Ante Up For Africa’s presence is already an area of great pride within the poker community, as epitomized by the annual fundraisers at the world series of poker
. This time Europe and PokerStars will headline the charity effort, with the event scheduled for 6:00 pm Monte Carlo time on April 27, 2009.

Among the Team PokerStars.com Pros highlighting the night’s fundraising efforts are Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem and Vanessa Rousso, each of whom will compete in the €4,000 buy-in no-limit Texas hold'em.

PokerStars will award the winner of the tournament a special prize package to the flagship EPT PokerStars Caribbean Adventure event in the Bahamas in January 2010. All of the prize money from the event will be donated to Ante Up For Africa to help fund the ongoing relief efforts in Darfur, Sudan, and support activism dedicated to resolving the crisis. The Darfur crisis has resulted in more than 300,000 deaths and created over three million refugees to date.
