Three new inductees to the Women in Poker Hall of Fame have been announced. June Field, Jan Fisher and Cyndy Violette will join last year’s inductees Linda Johnson, Marsha Waggoner, Susie Isaacs and Barbara Enright as women who have made outstanding contributions to poker.

The 2009 WiPHOF festivities open with a $200+30 (w/ $50 re-buys) “Poker Gives” charity tournament on Thursday, June 4 at 7PM at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas. Poker Gives was founded by poker industry professionals Mike Sexton, Linda Johnson, Jan Fisher, and Lisa Tenner as a way for the poker world to give back to worthwhile charity organizations. The goal is to raise funds through poker events and donate it to four mainstream charities that are near and dear to their hearts.

The induction ceremony and celebration, emceed by Mike Sexton, will take place Friday, June 5, at 6PM. Entry includes the dinner/dance, a commemorative gift, and nominating rights for the 2010 inductee selections. Tickets may be purchased at WomeninPokerHallofFame.com.

A bit on this year’s inductees:

June Field is noted in poker for her entrepreneurial spirit as the founder of CardPlayer Magazine, which today remains one of the largest poker publications in the world. She is the founder of Card Player Cruises and Classic Poker Cruises as well as Poker Digest, which was merged with Casino Player Magazine.

Industry leader Jan Fisher credits include a stint as the World Poker Tour’s in-house statistician, being a co-founder of the Tournament Directors’ Association, a partner in Card Player Cruises, and writing a column called “Fishing Around” for Poker Player Magazine. Fisher is also a member of the boards of directors for Poker Players Alliance, the Ladies Poker Association and LIPS Tour.

Cyndy Violette is widely known as a Full Tilt Poker sponsored pro and for her achievements on the felt. In 2004, she won a World Series of Poker (WSOP) stud eight-or-better bracelet. In 2005, she made three final WSOP tables and garnered six cashes. Violette has made several television appearances, including “The Superstars of Poker,” “Poker Royale Pro/Celebrity,” and WSOP telecasts. Today, she travels between Las Vegas and Los Angeles playing high-stakes cash games and major poker tournaments. Violette also owns her own line of poker-inspired clothing and motivational products.

Each of these women has assisted in challenging the status quo and breaking down the barriers that originally made poker a “man’s game.” Each continues to inspire women, not just to play poker but to realize that in life, as in poker, anything is possible.
