Day 5 Completed

Li Leads 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event Final Table

The 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event has only one day left and that's the final table day where a winner will be crowned. The original starting field of 659 runners has been whittled all the way down to just seven and leading the way is Bjorn Li with 4.775 million in chips.

Coming into Day 5, the two big stories rested with Phil Ivey and Lee Nelson, the 2006 Aussie Millions Main Event champion. All wishes of a final table that included the both of them would not come true as Ivey fell in 12th place and Nelson in ninth.

Ivey was the first player eliminated on the day after entering Day 5 as the shortest stack. He got involved in a raising war with Yann Dion before calling off all of his chips dominated. Ivey held the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and Dion the {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}. After a board of {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}{8-Clubs}{9-Spades} ran out, Ivey was left with a payday of A$100,000 and shot upstairs to Studio 3 to hop in the $250,000 Challenge that was to start a couple hours later.

Nelson lasted a little longer than Ivey did before bowing out in ninth place for A$125,000. On Nelson's final hand of the tournament, he was all in with the {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} versus the {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for Oliver Speidel. The eights held for Speidel after the board ran out {6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades}{3-Hearts}{7-Hearts} and Nelson headed out the door.

After a redraw to one table of eight — the unofficial final table — it was Daniel Idema who was eliminated just one spot short of Day 6. Idema was by far the most decorated player in the final eight, but he fell just one spot short after his {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} ran into Li's {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}. For his finish, Idema earned A$125,000.

The final table is set to commence at 12:30 PM local time down in Melbourne, Australia. Things will be taking place upstairs in Studio 3 and not in the poker room at the beautiful Crown Casino. If you're in the area, feel free to come on down and catch some of the action. The final table will be filmed for television and the atmosphere is always an extremely exciting one.

After the players bagged and tagged for the night, Mile Krstanoski told us that he's going to, "Ship the lot!" That means he's fired up for the final table and you should be as well. We'll see everyone back here tomorrow for the conclusion of the 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event.

Daniel Idema Eliminated in 8th Place (A$125,000)

Daniel Idema - 8th Place

From early position, Bjorn Li raised to 85,000. Oliver Speidel called from the hijack seat and then Mile Krstanoski made the call from the button. In the small blind was Daniel Idema and he reraised all in for 1.39 million. After Yann Dion folded from the big blind, Li requested an exact count. Then, Li reraised all in for greater than three million, having both Speidel and Krstanoski covered.

Speidel quickly folded, but Krstanoski looked as though his decision was a bit harder. He tanked for a bit and even asked for a count on Li's stack. He found that it was over three million and greater than his stack. A minute later, Krstanoski folded.

Li showed the {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} and was dominating Idema's {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}. Krstanoski told Li he had the same hand.

The flop came down {7-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and so far, Li stayed in front with his big slick. The turn was the {2-Diamonds} and then the river completed the board with the {5-Clubs}. Idema's ace-queen high fell second best to Li's ace-king high and he was officially eliminated in eighth place. For his finish, Idema walked away with A$125,000.

Mile Won't Go Away

Patrick Healy opened it to 80,000 from middle position and received calls from Kenneth Wong in the cutoff and Mile Krstanoski in the big blind.

Flop: {8-Spades}{2-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

On the flop, play was checked to Wong and he led for 140,000. Krstanoski then made it 170,000 more. Wong quickly made it 240,000 more and then Krstanoski made it an extra 520,000. This is when Wong let his hand go and Krstanoski took it down.

Healy Goes Boom

From early position, Daniel Idema raised to 80,000. After Yann Dion flat-called from the next seat, Patrick Healy meant to call from the hijack seat, but accidentally tossed out 120,000 and was forced to reraise. His raise to 120,000 stood and then action folded around to Idema. Idema reraised and made it 300,000 to go. Dion got out of the way and then Healy quickly made the call. This made a very confused look come over Idema's face as the dealer pulled in the chips to get ready for the flop.

The flop came down {A-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Spades} and Idema announced 400,000 before sliding his bet into the middle. Straight away, Healy moved all in for 1.235 million. After a minute, Idema called.

Idema tabled the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}, but Healy had flopped top pair with the {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}.

The turn was the {3-Spades} and the river the {A-Diamonds}. Healy went on to finish with trips and win the hand, doubling to 3.25 million and knocking Idema back to around one million.

Speidel vs. Li

Bjorn Li
Bjorn Li

From early position, Oliver Speidel raised to 100,000. Action folded around to Bjorn Li in the big blind and he made the call to see the flop come down {Q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. Li checked and Speidel checked.

The turn was the {2-Spades} and paired the board. Li bet 125,000 and Speidel made the quick called.

The river was the {6-Hearts} and Li fired 300,000. Speidel tanked for a minute or so and then called, but mucked his hand after Li tabled the {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}.

On the next hand, Speidel raised to 100,000 from under the gun. Li called again, but this time from the small blind, and the flop came down {Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. Li and Speidel both checked.

The turn was the {9-Diamonds} and both players checked to see the {5-Clubs} land on the river. Li bet 175,000 and Speidel mucked.
