Welcome to Day 5 of the €5,300 Main Event at the 2023 European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona. Cards go in the air at 12 p.m. at Casino Barcelona for the fifth of this seven day event.
The final 32 players will return to compete for a total prize pool of €10,282,000, from which €1,488,000 will go to the winner.
France’s Simon Wiciak is at the top of the leaderboard for Day 5 and he has a chance to add to his $101,000 in career earnings. He’s followed in second by Daniyar Aubakirov of Kazakhstan in second and Brazil’s Joao Sydenstricker in third. Carl Shaw of the United Kingdom and Uruguay’s Mathias Duarte round out the top five.

All returning players are guaranteed at least €31,250 and a pay jump to €36,100 will come after the first elimination of the day.

Action will continue at 12 p.m. on Friday in Level 25 with blinds at 20,000/40,000 with a 40,000 ante. The tournament will also be streamed via YouTube and Twitch on the PokerStars channel. The stream will kick off at 12:30 p.m. with a 30-minute security delay.

With about 500,000 in the middle and the board reading J♥9♥10♦, Lucas Scafini checked from the cutoff and Daniyar Aubakirov moved all in from the button, covering Scafini's remaining stack of about 400,000. Scafini quickly made the call to put himself at risk.

Scafini had been outflopped and remained so on the 2♥ turn. Aubakirov improved to quads on the 10♠ river to eliminate Scafini early on Day 5 and collect a decent pot.

In a blind versus blind battle, Oshri Lahmani bet 105,000 on a board of K♥5♠K♦2♥ and Jose Rodriguez Zurita called.
The river came the 4♦ and Lahmani led out for another 135,000. Rodriguez Zurita then raised to 450,000 and Lahmani gave up his hand.

Markku Koplimaa opened to 80,000 from under the gun with Q♠Q♦ and received calls from Simon Wiciak from the cutoff holding A♥3♥ and Andre Akkari in the big blind with 7♦6♥.
All three players checked the J♦J♣9♠ flop and A♦ turn leading to the 9♥ on the river. Action checked around to Wiciak who bet 75,000 in position. Akkari got out of the way and after about 30 seconds Koplimaa also threw his queens into the muck and Wiciak took down the pot without showdown.

On the first hand of Day 5, Curtis Knight raised to 80,000 from early position before Ka Kwan Lau three-bet to 770,000 on the button, leaving around 100,000 behind.
Knight then moved all in and Lau looked around at the other tables for a minute before tossing in his last chips.
