Daniel Demicki Wins Event #24
Daniel Demicki Wins Event #24

The final event of the 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship, a AU$5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha tournament, exceeded all expectations and attracted a field of 78 entries. Only the top 10 spots were guaranteed a portion of the AU$366,600 prize pool and previous LK Boutique championship winners such as Jarryd Godena, Chance Kornuth, Paul Hoefer and Joshua Budin as well as Aussie legends Billy "The Croc" Argyros and Graeme Putt all fell before the money, Martin Finger bubbled.

Nikolaos Solomos fell before the unofficial final table of the last nine was found and Konstantin Buecherl bowed out in 9th place after having previously lost most of his chips in a three-way all in. Fabian Geisel's kings with ace-six double suit then made the nut flush and sent the German to the rail.

8-Game Mixed Event winner Stephen Chidwick followed next after defending his big blind with an ace and flopping top pair, Michael Tomeny made two pair and turned a flush to bust the dangerous Brit. Kiwi Gareth Pepper's pocket kings were cracked by Daniel Demiki, who had plenty of outs with a gutshot and wheel draw before spiking an ace on the river.

Tomeny's jacks were no good against the kings of Douglas Corning to bust in 6th place. Corning's joy didn't last long, he got it in with pocket aces on a four-high flop and Demiki's flopped full house held up. Pocket kings were no good for 2014 World Series of Poker Asia Pacific bracelet winner Sam Higgs either, Geisel made a set with pocket nines to bust the Aussie.

Geisel followed next after turning top pair, a gutshot and the nut flush draw only to see Demicki's set of sevens hold strong. The heads up battle between Demicki and Sequenzia was dominated by the Pole but Sequenzia staged a comeback with two double ups in a row before flipping it in with an open-ended straight draw. Demicki's flopped two pair claimed the victory for a payday of AU$98,980.

Daniel Sequenzia Eliminated in 2nd Place (AU$65,990)

Level 20 : 10,000/20,000, 0 ante
Daniel Sequenzia
Daniel Sequenzia

Just before the end of the previous level, Daniel Sequenzia asked for a possible deal again but it quickly fell through when Daniel Demicki asked for slightly more money. The Pole then pulled away again by sheer aggression before Demicki squeezed to 60,000. Sequenzia three-bet to 180,000 and was called to see a flop of {Q-Clubs}{8-Spades}{7-Spades}.

Demicki continued for the size of the pot and Sequenzia eventually gave in, shoving to put himself at risk.

Sequenzia: {K-Spades}{J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Demicki: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{9-Clubs}{7-Clubs}

Both the {6-Clubs} turn and the {8-Hearts} river blanked and Demicki was crowned champion, Sequenzia had to settle for a payday of AU$65,990.

Stacked down all the way to less than 10 big blinds, Daniel Sequenzia faced a pot-sized raise to 48,000 and reraised the pot for 142,000 with 16,000 behind. Demicki put him in and they turned over the cards.

Sequenzia: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Demicki: {J-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{10-Spades}{5-Spades}

The board ran out {10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} and the set of queens secured a double up.

Demicki Pulling Away

Level 19 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

Daniel Sequenzia raised to 40,000 and Daniel Demicki called to see a flop of {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. Demicki checked and so did his opponent. On the {2-Hearts} turn, Demicki check-called a bet of 80,000 before both players checked the {2-Spades} river. Demicki flipped over {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and that was good enough to scoop the pot.

Level 19 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

The chip counts of both players stayed exactly the same after back and forth action in two consecutive hands.

Daniel Sequenzia limped in and the Daniel Demicki checked. On the flop {6-Hearts}{4-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop, Demicki check-called a bet of 20,000 and did so again for 45,000 on the {7-Spades} turn. The {2-Spades} river was checked through and Sequenzia flashed {8-Spades}{5-Spades} for a turned straight and rivered flush, which ended up second best to the {A-Spades}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{6-Clubs} of his opponent. "You were waiting for me, huh?"

One hand later, Demicki raised to 40,000 and was called. On the {Q-Spades}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop Sequenzia check-raised the pot to 200,000 and Demicki forfeited his 40,000 continuation bet.

No Deal for Now

Level 19 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante

Upon returning to the table, both players quickly had a look at the ICM numbers but Daniel Demicki was not happy with those and the possible deal was canceled. The first bigger pot of the new level went to Daniel Sequenzia, who called a bet of 20,000 on the flop {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. On the {A-Spades} turn, Demicki bet 45,000 and folded to a pot-sized raise.

One hand later, Demicki raised to 40,000 and Sequenzia called. They checked through the flop {7-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Sequenzia check-folded the {K-Spades} turn when facing a bet of 50,000.
