888Local Heads Back to Aspers Casino on March 3
On March 3, 2016, 888poker celebrates the beginning of a new season of their low buy-in live tournament series with the first 888Local event of 2016 at Aspers Casino in London.
Built to entice recreational players and first-timers, the 88Local series was first launched in the beginning of 2015 and has since then become one of the more popular tournament series of its kind in Europe. Running from March 3-6, the first 888Local event of 2016 evolves around a £220 Main Event that features three starting flights and carries a £50,000 guaranteed prize pool.
Thanks to the low entry fee and a format that allows the players to use one reentry during each of the starting days on the schedule, organizers from 888poker hope to replicate the success of their last visit to Aspers Casino back in May 2015, when 556 entrants joined the £220 Main Event and smashed the £50,000 guarantee by generating a prize pool of £110,080. In that event, it was local hero Jerome Bradpiece to leave the poker room with the title and the £22,500 top prize.
"Many of those who play at these events are people who have never joined a live game at a casino," a representative from 888poker told PokerNews. "They want to know how it feels, they want to see how it is, and they want a stress-free environment. With these tournaments, we are trying to focus on specific markets and to literally bring poker to your doorstep."
The 888Local event takes place less than one month after the poker room opened a new season of their 888Live poker tournament series with a hugely successful 'poker and snow' event held at Innsbruck Casino in Austria. There, the weekend of poker, skiing, snowboarding, and partying ended when France's Eliot Hirn outlasted a field of 127 entrants who ponied up the $400 buy-in and survived an intense heads-up battle with Italy’s Ivan Mairhofer, pocketing a €8,610 cash prize after a three-way deal.
