Albertini Aggressing

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Stephane Albertini was first to act and opened to 100,000. Phil Hellmuth called from the small blind and Joseph Cheong from the big.

The flop was {10-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and it checked to Albertini who continued for 155,000. Both of his opponent shot their hands at the muck and Albertini took down the pot.

Eights No Good for Cheong

Joseph Cheong raised to 115,000 on the button and Sergii Baranov defended from the big blind. The duo proceeded to check down every street as the board ran out {Q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{A-Spades}, and Cheong rolled over {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}. Unfortunately for him, it was no good as Baranov revealed {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a rivered pair of aces.

Hellmuth Back In the Lead

Sergii Baranov was first to act and opened to 110,000. Phil Hellmuth three-bet to 300,000 from the button and it folded back to Baranov who snap called. The flop came {A-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Spades} and both players checked.

The {3-Diamonds} turned and Baranov led for 300,000. Hellmuth almost beat him into the pot with a call. The river was the {7-Clubs} and Baranov slowed down with a check. Hellmuth threw 400,000 into the middle.

Baranov tanked for about a minute before finally calling with {A-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. Hellmuth triumphantly showed {7-Spades}{3-Spades} for two pair and took the pot down, catapulting him back into the chip lead.

Hellmuth Takes a Big Pot From Cheong

Joseph Cheong raised to 110,000 under the gun and Phil Hellmuth defended from the big blind. The {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop saw Hellmuth lead out for 175,000 and Cheong called. The same action happened on the {4-Clubs} turn, but this time Hellmuth's bet was 200,000.

When the {K-Spades} peeled off on the river, Hellmuth came out with a big bet of 600,000 and Cheong made a quick call. Hellmuth quickly rolled over {4-Spades}{4-Hearts} for a full house and the win.

Hellmuth Can't Beat Baranov

Action folded to Sergii Baranov's small blind and he made it 90,000. Phil Hellmuth called from the big blind and the flop came {8-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}. Baranov continued for 115,000 and Hellmuth snap called once again.

Fourth street was the {7-Clubs} and Baranov bet 285,000. Hellmuth snapped him off once again and the {Q-Clubs} fell on the river. Sergii dropped five t100,000 plaques into the middle for 500,000.

"Call!" yelled Hellmuth.

Baranov showed {K-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a flush.

"Dah!" continued Hellmuth. "How much this time!?

Hellmuth showed {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for the same straight that Baranov turned.

"There! You want to see? I had a straight!" said Hellmuth. "What is going on!?"

Hellmuth has now fallen to 2.815 million in chips while Baranov has extended his chip lead.

Pocket Rockets Propel Albertini to a Double

Stephane Albertini raised to 80,000 from the button and received calls from Sergii Baranov and Phil Hellmuth in the small and big blinds respectively. The former proceeded to lead out for 200,000 on the {10-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Spades} flop. Hellmuth folded, Albertini raised to 490,000, and Baranov called.

The {4-Spades} turn saw Baranov check-call Albertini's all-in shove or approximately 450,000, and the cards were turned up:

Showdown
Baranov: {Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Albertini: {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}

Baranov had flopped top pair, but it was still behind the pocket rockets of Albertini. The {8-Spades} river changed nothing, and the French contingent on the rail went wild for their last hope of keeping the title in France.

Baranov Causing a Hellmuth Meltdown

Phil Hellmuth can't believe the Sergii's hand
Phil Hellmuth can't believe the Sergii's hand

Phil Hellmuth was first to act and opened to 90,000. Joseph Cheong folded his button and Stephane Albertini called from the small blind. Sergii Baranov tagged along from the big blind and the flop came {3-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}.

It checked to Hellmuth and he continued for 150,000. Albertini got out of the way while Baranov decided to check-raise to 350,000.

"I call!" proclaimed Hellmuth. "...how much?" The agitated Hellmuth matched Baranov's chips into the pot.

The {9-Diamonds} came on the turn and Baranov tossed out several plaques for a bet totaling 600,000. Hellmuth snapped Baranov and threw plaques of his own into the middle. The {6-Clubs} rivered and both players checked. Hellmuth showed {A-Hearts}{4-Spades} for a pair of fours, but Baranov tabled {J-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a pair of nines.

"OH MY GOD IN HEAVEN!" yelled Hellmuth. He bolted out of his chair. "What the f*ck!"

Hellmuth then fell straight to the ground and curled up into a ball, in utter disbelief that he lost the pot. The audience on the rail then burst into applause.

"God how does he get these miracles?!" continued Hellmuth. "I'm the one guy he cant' bluff and boom, he hits hit card! I'm just going to give Phil five hundred thousand, oh wait, there's my nine!"

Hellmuth has been consistently talking since the hand and we see no end in sight as he has now lost the chip lead.
