Play Becoming Cagey

The action since the break has largely consisted of small pots, with no one player on either table really taking the lead. Few pots seem to be making it past a flop, and who can blame our players, as the sharp increase in prize money at the final table stage makes it worth their while staying in until the final nine.

Final Pot a Big One for Ivan Demidov

Philippe Rouas - Eyebrows Raised, Stack Shrunk
Philippe Rouas - Eyebrows Raised, Stack Shrunk
Preflop, Philippe Rouas raised to 12,000, only to find button Demidov reraising to 29,500. He made the call, and they both checked the {4-Hearts} {J-Clubs} {4-Clubs} flop. On the {J-Hearts} turn, Rouas bet out 50,000, called by Demidov.

The river brought the {7-Diamonds} and with a large pot already brewed, he topped it off with an odd 99,500 bet (leaving himself just 75,000 behind). As the other table dashed for the break, Rouas considered the bet, eventually calling the bet.

Demidov flipped a winning {J-Spades} {5-Spades} which he was probably delighted he'd reraised with now. Up to a comfortable stack of around 450,000.

Predraw

Stanislav Alekhin Learns Eights Really Are Lucky
Stanislav Alekhin Learns Eights Really Are Lucky
Just a couple of interesting tidbits which happened in that hurricane of action before the redraw:

The {8-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} of Stanislav Alekhin hit the perfect flop, giving him a set against the {Q-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} overpair of Daniel Negreanu.

It all got in on the {8-Spades} {7-Spades} {3-Diamonds} flop, with the ensuing {10-Hearts} {6-Clubs} doubling the up-till-now quiet Alekhin to 460,000+ and dropping Negreanu to a level not seen since yesterday (full counts coming in the break).

Over on the feature table, Brandon Adams was simultaneously doubling up Ivan Demidov, who spiked an ace to crack his {K-?} {K-?} .

Redraw Time

There has been a short pause in the action while a table is broken and the players redraw for seats. There will be four minutes left of this level when they restart.

Erik Seidel Eliminated in 19th Place (£ 28,960)

Erik Seidel - Doubly Isolated
Erik Seidel - Doubly Isolated
Down to a microscopic 18,500, Erik Seidel patiently waited through several hands before getting it all in at the eleventh hour. Over to the rest of the table...

First off Scott Fischman doubled the bet in an isolation stab, but Soren Kongsgaard in the blinds came over the top rather convincingly. Fischman instantly mucked his hand, and quite right too - Kongsgaard showed the mighty {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} vs. Seidel's last-bid-for-survival {7-Spades} {3-Clubs} .

The flop: {9-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds} {3-Hearts}
Turn: {5-Spades}
River: {2-Clubs}

Matusow, looking at the TV monitors, was shouting words of straightening encouragement from another table. "Aces, Seidel? Oh, it's you that has the 7-3. I thought that might be Scott..."

Kim-Andre Torsvik Eliminated in 20th Place (£28,960)

Torsvik - 20th place finisher
Torsvik - 20th place finisher
John Juanda, his stack dwarfing everyone else's at his table like the Starship Enterprise dwarfs my Ford Fiesta, has been raising more or less every hand. Eventually, Torsvik called him and they saw a flop.

The flop came down {K-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {K-Spades} and Torsvik checked. Juanda bet 20,000, only for Torsvik to raise around half his stack, and Juanda put him all in. Call.

Torsvik: {A-Spades} {10-Spades}
Juanda: {Q-Clubs} {Q-Spades}

Turn: {J-Clubs}
River: {4-Clubs}

With a quick nod and a handshake, Torsvik was off to collect his winnings, and the Starship Juanda grew ever larger.

Shakerchipped Up

Double through for Talal Shakerchi courtesy of Justin Smith... Shakerchi, with 198,000, got it in the middle preflop. Smith, half out of his chair, tense knee resting on it as he considered making the call, eventually did so. He had initially raised, but now was risking almost half his stack.

Smith: {J-Diamonds} {J-Clubs}
Shakerchi: {A-Spades} {10-Clubs}

The flop brought an "Oooh," from the spectators, as it brought the {A-Hearts} along with two more hearts: {K-Hearts} {9-Hearts} ... that meant that Smith could be saved by a pot-splitting flush when the {7-Hearts} came on the turn. But no, it was the {A-Clubs} . Shakerchi up to 400,000, Smith down to 300,000.
