Volpe Survives on Seventh Street Against Haxton

Level 23b : 120,000/240,000, 0 ante
Paul Volpe and Isaac Haxton
Paul Volpe and Isaac Haxton

Stud Hi-Lo

Haxton: {X-}{X-} / {2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Becker: {X-}{X-} / {2-Spades}{9-Diamonds} - fold
Volpe: {X-}{X-} / {7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{A-Spades}

Isaac Haxton was the bring-in, Johannes Becker completed, Paul Volpe called, and Haxton called. Becker checked on fourth street, Volpe bet, Haxton called, and Becker folded.

Haxton paired up on fifth street and checked, Volpe bet, Haxton raised, and the rest of Volpe's stack got into the pot.

Haxton: {2-Diamonds}{5-Spades} / {2-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}
Volpe: {3-Clubs}{A-Clubs} / {7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{A-Spades}

Haxton had a full house for the high, while Volpe needed to catch running cards to beat the full house or a low card to chop.

Volpe caught a non-helpful {9-Clubs} on sixth while Haxton hit an {8-Diamonds}, but Volpe survived with the {6-Diamonds} on seventh street to make seven-six low to survive.

Negreanu Takes From Volpe, Gives to Becker

Level 23b : 120,000/240,000, 0 ante

Stud Hi-Lo

Daniel Negreanu: {X-}{X-} / {2-Hearts}{6-Spades}{4-Spades}
Paul Volpe: {X-}{X-} / {6-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} fold

Daniel Negreanu was the bring-in with the {2-Hearts} and Paul Volpe completed with the {6-Diamonds}. Negreanu raised and Volpe called. On fourth street, Volpe check-called a bet when picking up the {J-Clubs} and checked again the {7-Diamonds} on fifth street. Negreanu bet and Volpe folded.

"That was painful," Volpe said, and Negreanu replied, "you would have been in really bad shape with a five."

Ivo Donev: {X-}{X-} / {2-Diamonds} fold
Johannes Becker: {X-}{X-} / {7-Hearts}{2-Spades}{5-Hearts}
Daniel Negreanu: {X-}{X-} / {6-Spades}{K-Hearts}{4-Hearts}

Ivo Donev was the bring-in with the {2-Diamonds} and Johannes Becker completed with the {7-Hearts}, which Negreanu called and Donev folded. On fourth street, Negreanu received the {K-Hearts} and checked-called a bet by Becker who got the {2-Spades}. Negreanu also checked fifth street and then folded to a Becker bet.

Negreanu Displeased

Level 23b : 120,000/240,000, 0 ante
Daniel Negreanu (right) and Johannes Becker
Daniel Negreanu (right) and Johannes Becker

Stud Hi-Lo

Johannes Becker completed first to act with a {j-Spades} and Daniel Negreanu raised on his left with the {a-Clubs}. Everyone else folded, and Becker called. Negreanu caught a great card on fourth with the {3-Clubs} and continued his aggression, but Becker paired his jack on fifth and began betting.

Becker: {x-}{x-}/{j-Spades}{3-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{2-Clubs}
Negreanu: {x-}{x-}/{a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

On sixth, Negreanu slammed his chips together and muttered something to himself. He counted out the last two bets he'd have to call, this one and a presumed river bet, and thought over a minute before sliding in a call. Becker bet the end as well, and Negreanu sighed and called.

Becker showed {j-Hearts}{8-Spades}{9-Diamonds} for three jacks.

"Bravo, man," Negreanu said. "Bra-f******-o."

Becker and Negreanu Trade Pots in Hold'em

Level 23b : 120,000/240,000, 0 ante

Limit Hold'em

Daniel Negreanu raised from under the gun and Johannes Becker defended his big blind. On the {J-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Clubs} flop, Becker checked and Negreanu bet, then faced a check-raise by Becker. Negreanu folded and said "good hand."

The next hand, Becker raised from the small blind and Negreanu called in the big blind. The flop fell {J-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and Becker bet, Negreanu raised and Becker called. The {7-Diamonds} turn paired the board and Becker checked. Negreanu bet and that shut down all further action, as Becker let go.

Sion Picks Off Haxton

Level 23b : 120,000/240,000, 0 ante

Pot-Limit Omaha

Ivo Donev showed up right before this hand started.

Elior Sion opened for 150,000 in the cutoff, and Isaac Haxton called in the small blind. Both players checked the flop, and the board read {a-Spades}{j-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} on the turn. Haxton check-called 260,000. On the {3-Spades} river, Haxton thought for about a minute and then put in 600,000. Sion immediately flicked in a chip to call.

"Ace-king," Haxton anounced, fanning what looked like {a-}{k-}{9-}{8-} with the {k-Spades}.

Sion turned over {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}{8-Hearts}{4-Spades} and took it with a queen-high flush.

Daniel Negreanu Leads the $50,000 Poker Players Championship Final Table

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Welcome to PokerNews' coverage of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship final table. The starting field of 100 players is down to just six, each looking to capture one of the most prestigious bracelets of the summer, the first-place prize of $1,395,767, and the Chip Reese Memorial Trophy. Six-time bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu leads the way into the final table with 5,930,000.

Negreanu's road to the final table was smooth at the start. He bagged a better-than-average stack on Days 1 and 2, before a tumultuous Day 3 tested Negreanu's resolve in a way that many had not seen before. Wearing his emotions on his sleeve, Negreanu showed frustration and jubilation, infuriation and exultation. With 20 players left, Negreanu was last in chips with just one-and-a-half big bets, but persevered and ran up his stack to finish Day 3 fifth out of the remaining 15 players.

"When you play limit poker on this stage against the best players in the world, every pot means something," Negreanu told PokerNews after Day 4. "Especially when you get short, every time you lose a pot or lose a bet, it's like F***. You just want to curse. I'm not going to hide it. I've been emotional throughout."

"I helped create this event when it was originally created years ago," Negreanu continued. "I always was so disappointed I hadn't done better. I had a couple of cashes and last year came in 12th. I always felt, especially this year more than ever, that it's something I wanted to win."

Negreanu is the man to beat at this final table, but it will be far from an easy task as a talented final table stands between him and bracelet No. 7.

Second in chips is Isaac Haxton with 5,205,000. A staple in the high-roller no-limit hold'em tournament scene around the globe, Haxton is flexing his mixed-game muscle thus far in the PPC. In fact, much of Negreanu's emotional flurries have been following hands against Haxton.

Elior Sion is third in chips with 4,750,000. After coming close to making last year's PPC final table, Sion has improved upon his ninth-place finish and will no doubt be looking to go the distance this year. Johannes Becker sits fourth in chips with 4,560,000, and this marks just his third career WSOP cash. Fifth in chips is Ivo Donev with 2,990,000. The former international chess master and bracelet winner is making his eighth WSOP final table. The short stack is Paul Volpe with 1,570,000. The two-time bracelet winner also cashed in last summer's PPC, and is considered among the poker masses as one of the best all-around players in the world.
